month to month gym
Hello. I work in San Mateo, but live in San Jose. I am trying to find a gym up here that I can go to month to month. Does anyone have any suggestions?
You can try Planet Granite, their gym is not as big as 24 or Gold's but you have an option of rock climbing. I think there's additional fees for it though. While you're on the treadmill you can watch someone on the rock.
Slender Lady of San Mateo is conveniently located downtown, and Butterfly Life has two locations. One on Norfolk across the 101, and also one in Foster City. I recommend checking them out. The 24 Hour Fitness may be a bit rundown, but you can still get in good workouts there. The guys who run Max Muscle use that facility and are still able to acheive results.

Hi, Another option may be to set up your own home gym. You don't need a room full of equipment to get yourself in great shape. In fact most of the machines that you'll find in most gyms are actually detrimental to true functional fitness and set you up for some nasty medical issues. Get yourself a good personal trainer who will set up a progressive, fun program for you that you can do at home. You'll look good, feel good and develop real-world strength & power that you'll never get from jumping on isolation machines - PLUS you'll save thousands on gym dues as well as doctor bills. That's a win-win.
Fitness 19 offers month to month membership with no contract. And the monthly charge is reasonable. I just got a flyer on my car for a promotional rate so now might be a good time to give them a call. Good for cardio and weights. They can also help you with personal training and they're located right here in San Mateo so they seem to be the perfect fit for your needs.
Try Fitness 19 in San Mateo, near Big Five Sporting Goods on El Camino, northeast of the Hillsdale Shopping Center; they are the least expensive place around here (under $20 per month) and they have all the equipment you need. I actually got in for under $10 per month when I joined it up in Fair Oaks (near Sacramento) due to co-membership application with my ex-girlfriend.
I just got some information on a new place called Snap Fitness. I know of two locations, Foster City and San Mateo near Crystal Springs, but I believe there are more and I believe you can cross-use the gyms, like 24-Hour Fitness. They seemed to have great amenities but I don't know about the contract details. Chewck out their webcard below. Might be worth a call?
