You're smart to get this process started. My family and I found a great lawyer in Burlingame, Cynthia Schreurs. She established my father's estate and trust over 10 years ago. Two things impress me about Cynthia -- she is on top of every single law and tax break, and she takes great care in ensuring that the wishes of any person(s) bequeathing the estate or making changes to the trust are made of clear, conscious thought and not of duress or incapacity. Her contact information is below in the attached webcard.

My wife and I just completed the process of creating three trusts, our wills, our Durable Power of Attorney, our "do not resuscitate" documents, etc. The complexity of our situation dictated that we use a lawyer. We did quite a bit of research to find a very competent person we could feel completely comfortable with, and we found a gem. From his website (http://www.kayeholman.com/): -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- Jeff Holman received his law degree from Duke University along with an MBA from Duke Universitys Fuqua School of Business. Jeff also holds a Master of Science from the London School of Economics and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of California at Berkeley. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- If you decide to have an attorney help you with your estate issues, I wholeheartedly recommend you at least interview Jeff. The combination of his being very competent and professional with being personable and absolutely trustworthy may be just what you're looking for. To us, he looked good on paper, and when we talked to him in person we were convinced he was our guy almost immediately. The ensuing process of getting our estate in order couldn't have been easier, and afterward felt like a huge burden had been lifted. In any case, I hope you get this very important aspect of your life right. Best of luck.

I can heartily recommend Ralph Rizzo of Sullivan & Rizzo in Belmont (650-591-1110 -- webcard attached below). He's one of the few lawyers I really respect. He specializes in Family Law, including Probate and Estate work. He's been in practice in San Mateo County for more than 25 years, and he is often appointed as a pro-tem judge whenever the caseload at the Courthouse in Redwood City gets too heavy.

I know this is redwood city, but he is worth the trip as far as I am concerned, and he came recommended by my neighbor, a lawyer. We used him to set up our trusts, and pre-nupts: William Morris, 1771 Woodside Rd, Redwood City, 650-367177. We found him to be most helpful in leading us in the right language, etc. there are revocable and irrevocable, along with power of attorneys for health issues and financial ones, if you go, tell him Mary and John sent you, the other fly fisherman!! Plus he is a very knowledgeable, charming, interesting and mild-mannered man.
