ISO: Nearby Hard Disk Data Recovery Service
I just spent a weekend copying every bit of digital data I own onto a new Maxtor Hard Drive and now it won't mount. Seagate, the company that owns Maxtor, offered to recover the data and replace the drive with a refurbished one for twice what the original drive cost. Even though the drive is only a few weeks old and still under warranty. I'm convinced the data is fine; the problem is probably with the power supply or some other hardware. So... can anyone recommend a good data recovery service... preferrably someone local? Thanks!
They're not local, but you could try http://www.drivesavers.com/contact.html They are in Novato, and have an impressive reputation in the field of data recovery. Take a look at their "museum" site/link. Good luck!
FAILED DISK DRIVE RECOVERED! Thanks, Marc, for giving me the suggestion on how to solve my disk failure cheaply. It's a mark of an honest company to tell you if there's a cheaper way to solve a problem rather than just asking for money! Thanks, Cheryl, for getting the used drive to me promptly (2nd day from order) and in working condition. I just added a postive feedback note for your eBay store! My hard drive failed suddenly, and Marc suggested just swapping the electronics with the board from an identical drive instead of sending it to his company for a more expensive data recovery (upwards of $1000). ADeal.com specializes in used Gateway parts and had the identical drive... which was up for auction but I just bought it for $45 to speed up the process. The only trick on swapping the electronics was releasing the flex cable and setting the jumper to "slave" but overall it was pretty simple. (This technique will NOT work if you've had a head crash where the platter is damaged, and some electronics are tuned to the disk so they cannot be swapped - but it's sure a cheap "first try" even if it fails.) Bingo! Got all my files back! If anyone reading this message has a similar problem, I'd recommend these two honest and responsive businesses. I didn't actually sent a disk to DriveSavers, but several people who responded to my earlier query have and they liked the result: ADEAL.COM - 760.489.2955 - sales@... http://www.adeal.com/ "We specialize in liquidating large quantities of surplus, clearance, overstock, and refurbished computers and peripheral products." http://www.stores.ebay.com/id=1361492 "Specializing in Gateway Laptop Parts & Accessories. " DriveSavers Data Recovery - 800.440.1904 - recovery@... http://www.drivesavers.com/ "For 17 years, we've made possible what other companies say is impossible, recovering lost data from crashed hard drives and storage media."
