Belmont?
Any insights on what makes Belmont unique? I'd love to hear from Belmont residents on what they consider the most interesting insights on their town.
IMHO: The best thing about Belmont is close by in Redwood City ;-) Alan Steel is the coolest resource on the Peninsula. If you love to make things, or you like big heavy pointless surplus, and haven't been there yet, you have to check it out. If you have been there, you know why I love it.
Belmont has this thing called "Avenue of the Arts," which is a loose organization of all of the art-related (fine and performing) groups along Ralston Avenue. Twin Pines Park is a nice destination spot. There are free movies in the Senior Center Wednesdays at noon, and the Twin Pines Art Center--located in the century-old Manor House building--offers free admission to its two art galleries (Wed thru Sun afternoons until 4PM). Other fine arts attractions include the Weigand Gallery at Notre Dame U. and the 1870 Art Center. Sometimes, there's an art fair at the Carlmont Shopping Center, as well. The City Council is currently brainstorming was to make their little town more of a "destination spot." Right now, Ralston Ave. is kinda "blecch," and they'd love to have something more-attractive--perhaps along the lines of Laurel Avenue in San Carlos. Of course, my arts cohorts are "lobbying" for a Carmel- or Sausalito-like "visual-arts-dense" area on Ralston Ave., between ECR and Alameda. But I think that the Council has something in mind that's more like, "Let's attract some larger businesses, so that we can improve our tax base." (I don't see why they couldn't do both.) Oh, and I almost forgot: There's also a Farmers' Market at the south end of the train station on Sundays, year 'round. BTW, I live in San Mateo, but I volunteer at the Twin Pines Art Center. Cyn
And wait, there's a lot more to Belmont :-) In my opinion two great Italian restaurants, Vivace and Divino, and two great sandwich shops; Lorenzos, and Beli Deli. Great schools!!! Water Dog Lake, our own preserve right in the middle of Belmont with great hiking and mountain biking trails, and of course the trail system down at Oracle that stretch for miles. Great Farmers Market, open year around. A great new library!! I want a "I love living In Belmont" bumper sticker because I truly do!! Great town! ~ Mai

I have lived in Bemont for 20 years and love it. It is almost like living in the country with all the deer, raccoons, birds and of course skunk. You can walk your dogs at waterdog park, you can ride your bike almost everywhere because they provide great bike lanes, you have some great restaurants for dinner or drinks, a lot of small parks you can relax at and I personally like to walk the hills for exercise. It is 25 miles to the city or 25 miles to San Jose and close to the SM bridge. The people are very friendly and the City Council is very environmentally conscious.
