There's not really a pattern to whether or not it'll be a "good crowd" at St. James. The bands are usually pretty good, so if you like loud, rocking music, this is a great place to grab a pub bite after work and then just chill for the music to start. The crowds can be very diverse, from cycle-types and bar rats to the random bachelorette party (although I think I'd kill my friends if they had taken me there). Has evolved into a little bit of a dive bar, but the outdoor patio area is great for these warm summer afternoons and cool evenings.
Before DoodyCalls I worked for a large company which had a lot of vistors from Chicago. Belive me they know pubs. They loved the place. The fish tocos and St James Gate burgur (Guinness burgur) were and are a big hit. Thumbs up!
Twice a month, every 1st/3rd Sunday, St. James hosts open mic night. You'll hear a wide range of original artists and some interesting covers, all played solo or with accompaniment from the house band (electric & acoustic guitars, bass, drums & keys). All equipment is supplied. Whether you're an amateur or professional, singer/songwriter/musician/poet/comedian/storyteller or if you just want to connect with other local artists, all are welcome, including those patrons under 21.
The bangers and mash is not to be missed, for all ye lads and lasses whom enjoy U.K. culinary delights!
Oh, and don't miss Mr. Meanor tonight! THE BEST rock 'n roll cover band in the Bay Area! Talent at it's finest!
Really enjoyed this great place. Music was the best on the peninsula.
Loud and rocking.Food was great too! We had the Cobb salad and the Corned Beef Sandwich. Service was warm and with a smile.
Had the St. Jame's Gate Burger, served on a soft roll. just delicious.

This is a great place! Food is really good. They have live music every Friday and Saturday nights. Best pub in Belmont. You must give it a try.
