As a parent with two children that are alumni of Palcare, I feel it important to represent Palcare’s side. Palcare is a community based nonprofit with a volunteer Board of Directors that consists of parents, child development specialists, representatives of the corporate sponsors and members of the community. Palcare’s mission is to serve working families with quality childcare. It is difficult for me to understand the anger of the individuals writing such harsh criticisms directed at Palcare. Did you do any research on the issues of childcare and what an incredible shortage there is of licensed quality childcare in San Mateo County? There are waiting lists at every center. If you are concerned about child development issues, become informed and write to your representatives in Sacramento and the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors. Patty's review

Palcare is worth the wait
I'm a parent who has had to tackle the prospect of childcare for my 2 sons. I considered Palcare because of it's fantastic reputation and fun programs for the children. I chose not to submit an application because my situation could not tolerate an unknown wait. The personnel at Palcare was upfront about the uncertainty of when I'd know for sure and honest about getting back to me only when they had positive news. I wanted my kids there but my timing just couldn't tolerate the wait. As for the $25 regsitration fee - that's standard and on the cheap side. I've seen them as high as $100. Says right on the form that it is non-refundable and allows you to be on the waitlist - NOT guarantees you a spot in Palcare. http://palcare.org/media/docs/Application_Form_2006.pdf So, for those who want to gripe about waiting - don't. Don't gripe, don't wait - there are plenty of other services on the peninsula. As a side note, I find it appalling that someone would consider taking a non-profit organization focused on early child development to court over $25. Sounds like a) someone doesn't have proper planning skills and b) has way too much time on their hands.
