I just saw a sign for yet another new frozen yogurt shop on B Street that will be opening soon. What is up with all these new yogurt shops in downtown San Mateo? I can count at least 4 that have opened up this summer that are all within walking distance. There is even one instance of a yogurt shop inside an eye glasses store. Bottom line: has anyone tried any of these new places, and which ones are good?

I've only been to Yogurtoille on B Street down the street from Talbot's. It's excellent! I like the fact that it's self serve and they offer a great range of flavors. My favs are the more tart flavors that really taste like yogurt instead of pretend ice cream. I attached their Webcard below.

It is odd to see so many shops open up recently. I've tried a couple and it seems to me that there's not a huge difference between the new ones. All the new shops seem to focus on a truer tangy yogurt style (which is great) rather than the old stuff that added so much sugar and filler in a failed attempt to compete with ice cream shops. It comes down to the cost and toppings. I like to add fresh fruit. Yogurtville has a nice selection of flavors and its self serve so you can manage your own portion size which is a plus. My old favorite is actually in San Carlos, Harmony Yogurt. It was here before the frozen yogurt resurgence, offers organic ingredients, has a wonderful fresh tangy vanilla yogurt flavor which is perfect with ripe blueberries and strawberries.

Yogurtouille, definitely. I'm a huge fan of their tart yogurt, and the fruit toppings are really fresh. I found this place a few months ago, and have already gone back over 10 times for more.
