What a find! I was fortunate to be a co-worker of Jim's and choose to try his Shiatsu and Watsu services. I am so glad I did!! I am a women with neuropathy in my legs and I deal with a fair amount of pain. After treatment I have notable relief. My energy flow in my legs is much improved. Nature's most basic element, water, has such a healing nature. That combined with Jim's delicate techniques make his Watsu Sessions close to Nirvana!
Felicia at Nob Hill Catering was a life saver. She was able to work with our budget and our reception came out beautiful. Thank you soooo much Felicia.

When my beloved 13 yr old cat was diagnosed with anemia, Dr. Sutter did extensive research and found a medication for him. Due to Dr. Sutter"s extra effort, and great care my little guy was able to enjoy one more year of good quality life before he succumed to kidney failure at 14 years of age. He cares about all of his patients, even those that are elderly.
Hello, I am still learning how all these webcards work... Could someone tell me how to find the date & time for this event? thank you.
Seriously. Even if you're not into gourmet, incredibly tasty, made-to-order, reasonably-priced, hunger-satiating sandwiches, do your tastebuds a favor and pop into Specialty's for one of their transcendent treats. I have to stop typing now, because I am getting chocolate goo all over my keyboard. Go to Specialty's. Just go.
It's great to see that this sushi restaurant off the beaten path is open a little later (10pm) for us late-night snackers. The sushi is fresh, although the sashimi and nigiri are not very substantial -- you'd be better off getting a few rolls to quell that hunger. The unagi roll ($4.95) and salmon/avocado roll ($5.95) are a great deal and do the job just fine. You won't miss the game, either, as there are TVs scattered around to offer visual updates. Just a comfortable, neighborhood sushi joint.
I want to recommend Marshall Walden of Walden Tile for anyone requiring tile repair work. I had to replace my kitchen sink which was set in a tiled counter. As you might guess, it is rather difficult to find people who do this type of work. Marshall charges by the hour and gave me an estimate of 3 to 8 hours to do the job. He said he couldn't be more specific until he started the work because he didn't know what he would find. He completed the job in about 4 1/2 hours. He removed the old sink, installed the new sink and reconnected the faucet, disposal and dishwasher. He was able to do this and only replace two tiles which I think is really amazing! Marshall works with one assistant. Both are very pleasant, punctual, and don't waste any time. They also work very cleanly. I would not hesitate to use Marshall again for work of this type. His office phone is 780-4740. Barbara Eandi
I was happy to see this iconic diner ressurect when the infamous Villa Hotel became a retirement community. The menu is nothing extraordinary (although my companion raved about the cinnamon-infused french toast), but the service was very nice. Paul's is open to the public, and despite their busy hour, the friendly staff was attentive. The owners (who reportedly also run the equally-iconic Sky Kitchen in San Carlos) were actually married at the Villa Hotel int he 60s, and have returned to set down roots. Nice to see some local "kids" bring us back to familiar ground.
Jim combines many modalities and explains clearly so that you can take some action at home to relieve your symptoms and sore muscles yourself. He was able to release some pretty tight shoulder and neck muscles using a variety of techniques. Thank you Jim!!
Joy has helped me immensely in the area of weight loss and self esteem. I have always been somewhat overweight and frustrated by this fact. Then a couple of years ago I lost over 40 pounds only to gain it back again. I knew there had to be a better way to lose the weight and keep it off. That is when I discovered Joy’s hypnotherapy. She has helped me find simple ways to incorporate exercise and mindful eating into my life. I am losing weight and starting to enjoy exercising! With the help of Joy I really feel that any negative thing in my life can be overcome by the power of hypnotherapy. If you are tired of losing weight only to gain it back because your “diet” is not something you can maintain, then I highly recommend Joy to help you lose weight by making some small life changes that last! Thank you, Joy! Bernadette
We were happy to experience Acqua Pazza and have gone back few times already!! The atmosphere is warm and welcoming and the team knows how to take care of their customers. The selections we tried were all great! Among our favorites are "zuppa fagioli e cozze", " parmigiana di melanzane ", "linguine bella napoli" and, if you keep room for dessert, try the "zabaglione with a shot of espresso coffee", you will add a special treat at the end of your meal... Enjoy!
We hired Lawless Painting to paint the outside of our home. The owner, Derek Lawless, is very professional. He is thorough, fast, efficient and keeps the premises clean. Reasonably priced.
Working with Tina for only three visits and already I am able to begin practicing golf after tearing my achilles tendon. They have done a fantastic job improving my range of motion of the ankle and strengthening the calf and tendon.
went in to look at a gas saver. I was given the run around for 2.5 hours to get an bad price. then when i tried to leave some guy who claimed to be manager came out to give me more b.s.! they low balled my trade in! wasted my time don't waste your time there the service sucks and so does the place. bought same car from sf. ford one hour later with no hassle and it took 45 min! the guy at sf ford said those guys at veracom don't know what they are doing and he was right!
Went in to get an exterior wash onl 5 minutes before closing time. Smooth wash and dry and home I went. Arriving at home I find SEVERAl spots of bird poop on my car still. I drive a dark blue 911 so this is easy to spot. Consequently I had to re-wash the front end of the car again. I've been a loyal customer to Ducky's for years and only reason I did Auto pride was it was on a week-day, and my car had bird poop on it. Next time I will hose down the car myself, wait for teh week-end and go to Ducky's for them to finish up the job. At least you get what you pay for at Ducky's....
I couldn't be happier with the service I received from Ricker Motors. they took care of everything from dealing with the dreaded insurance agent to having the rental car company pick me up. They even returned the rental car for me when I picked up mine. I drop off my car on Monday and had it back that Friday. I was amazed, I thought it would've taken at least a couple weeks. My BMW looks better than NEW! Thank You Ricker motors for everything, my hat goes off to you.
A friend of a friend recommended Renda and now I can see why. First off, her salon is beautifully designed - dark apple walls, hanging modern cut glass chandeliers, dark wood cabinets. It is spacious, the music is not too loud and there was a lovely breeze coming from the back patio. I admit, I am fussy when it comes to haircuts but she totally got what I wanted. She gave me what I wanted but more. She gave me a more modern, more European edgy version of what I had described. I was very pleased. It was like a city cut but without the hassle of parking, driving, etc. She is fun, smart, chic and talented.
What a nice surprise in San Mateo -- a chinese restaurant that's actually got a unique feel and flavor. Well, the menu is relatively simple, certainly traditional Chinese, yet the chefs have managed to create something different even in the basics (soups, noodle dishes). The service is friendly, attentive without overbearing, and prompt. And the best part is that it doesn't make a huge hole in your pocket -- very reasonable prices for a place that looks like it might charge a bit more. Not uber fancy but still a very nice, simple restaurant.
Our office printer recently went on an interesting journey of diagnostic disasters. After calling four (yes, FOUR) printer repair "specialists" and ridiculous diagnoses from each, I was referred to Frank by 1-800-905GEEK, who specializes in computer repair but who, with my apprecation, thought I would get better results from a printer specialist. Figuring I couldn't do any worse, I called Frank, who came out the same day and at the time he said he would. Frank went right to it, and not only asked me questions before he began, but also explained things to me as he went along so that I could use the information in case I had future problems. Two previous "technicians" had said I needed new parts, one for a $300 transfer kit and one for a $300 fuser. (Both of these parts, btw, were found online for under $90). Frank took apart only what he needed to, saving me money by not taking advantage of labor time. He was in and out of my office quickly, charged me just for one hour of labor, and said that we needed no parts. He ensured the printer worked, and even cleaned it of dust and other particles. I have absolutely no reservations of recommending Frank and Laser Co,. USA. I felt he was fair, honest, and skilled at his craft. If needed, I will absolutely use his services in the future.
I always had trouble with my skin. I had large pores and melasma that no matter what I did, these problems wouldn't go away. I found Renew laser clinic while visiting Crystal Springs mall in San Mateo. I had a free consultation with Dr. Makow and she prescribed Obagi treatment, laser genesis and microdermabrasion. After a couple of weeks of treatmente I started to see results. I wish you could see me now. My melasma is gone and my pores are smaller and my skin in general just look better. I definetely recommend Renew laser Clinic for your skin care needs.
I love coming here and spending money...no really, I get a cup of gourmet coffee, fitted for a pair of pants, a custom shirt and it is all relatively reasonable for the quality of service! and I really don't want to go anywhere else!!! Follow the Bear!!!
Rescue Carpet Care was courteous, prompt and did a good job on our carpets. We were attracted to the "green products" and there was NO smell after the cleaning. At one point they added a service for free and they also discussed particular aspects of our carpets so I knew what to expect. Originally, we wanted to get several quotes but they were so acccomodating and could schedule us in quickly -- I did not do any other research and we are very satisfied!
So I saw in today's Daily Digest that Pancho Villa was the featured business for the day. I probably ate at PV about 10 years ago, and after moving away, kind of forgot all about it until I saw this little feature. So I went there for lunch today, and I wanted to kick myself for not having remembered how good the food is there. I love the build-as-you-go setup. There are like 50 mexican restaurants in San Mateo, and if you want fresh, fast and fabulous mexican food, I would definitely recommend Pancho Villa.
I've been working with Andre and Olivia Levitt for over a year now at their new studio which is part of the Sage Wellness Center in San Mateo. Super challenging exercises and was able to heal my frozen shoulder using the Gyrotonic. I've noticed that my body is stronger and still supple. And my shoulder feels fantastic. Plenty of parking and easy to find. I highly recommend their program!
The people at Paw Spa Salon are wonderful. They're really friendly to dogs and humans alike. The dogs are not kept in cages; they're allowed to wander around and play with other dogs before and after their baths. And my dog loves going there! Thanks Kristen and Chris!
I found Anat while surfing the internet for a photographer to take pictures of me and my boyfriend. I'm so glad we worked with Anat. Anat met us at one of my favorite parks in the city. She immediately put us at ease and simply photographed us while we enjoyed a walk in the park. The photos are beautiful and unlike any other couples photographs I have ever seen. She captured our relationship on film. I enjoyed the experience and have wonderful pictures to cherish. I highly recommend working with Anat.
Okay, so I just needed change to ward off the militant meter maids of downtown San Mateo. I popped into an establishment (I REALLY want to mention their name!!) and asked for some quarters, and I was, get this, denied. Whatever! So I ventured down the street and inquired at San Mateo Liquors. I had actually never been here before, but the gentleman behind the counter was extremely nice and had no problem exchanging metal for paper. I'd go back and buy something there just because of this initial customer service. And if I ever want to satiate my craving for Peruvian food, I can wander into the attached restaurant and grab some tasty delights. Nice to see that San Mateo hasn't lost all of its neighborhood charms.
Envirotek is easily one of my favorite vendors. I have them strip and reseal my extensive outdoor deck and perimeter fence ever three years and am always impressed with the quality of the work and the friendly and helpful people.
Very attentive service and authentic, well prepared and coupled offerings. Was very pleasantly surprised at the quality. A true hidden gem......
Wear your "comfortable jeans" because you're going to need the extra wiggle room after eating here. The portions are HUGE (a bit TOO huge) but those needing to fill their bellies won't be disappointed. Coffee is weak, so you may want to stop on B-game Avenue grab one on your way while you wait for a table. Recommend splitting a meal (kids, too) if you're not in need of gourding yourself. Moderate prices and a family-friendly staff keeps folks coming back, many of them are 20+ year customers. After your heaving breakfast, trod across the street to Washington Park for a recovery nap. You're going to need it! : ) A nice way to spend your day!
I used to work in San Bruno, and just uip the road off 280 lies an incredible sandwich spot. I no longer work in that area, and the other day, when rounding the corner of Norfolk at Paradise Plaza, I was nearly brought to tears of joy: Specialty's Cafe has made its way to San Mateo. All I can tell you is get there early, get your incredibly fresh M-T-O sando, and get a cookie. It doesn't matter which one. Just get one. Get a dozen and be an office hero. And then, get used to eating here often. Because you will.
Okay, so it's a chain, so what? It's really one of the few places around that offers a great array of fresh salad fixin's, hearty-yet-healthy soups, and of course the tempation of post-meal treats (but there's non-fat fro-yo, too). This is a great place to take kids, not only because it's relatively affordable by today's cost of dining out, but moreso because kids really begin to learn how to make good choices as they develop their tastes and eating habits. So show by example, and bypass the fast-food joints on El Camino. It can even be a weekly outing that your kids (or you!) can look forward to.
Very cool and fun people. I love the name. I will recommend this place to family and friends!
Trags has a nice personal appeal - good selection and quite reasonable prices, very good fresh produce, and an excellent deli section with a wide range of hot foods nicely displayed. The staff are very helpful and friendly and Trags just seems like a larger version of a small neighborhood market. It's an easy, comfortable place to shop.
There are a lot of terrific coffee shops in downtown San Mateo, and I'm sure throughout the city as well. But I know the downtown area best, and I'm challenged to find one friendlier than 3 Bees Coffee. I pop in about once a week (not much of a drinker, obviously) but every time I go in, I feel welcomed as a regular, anyway. The staff is friendly, efficient, and it's just a cute little place to hang out, check email, or check out some cool local art or photography. It's a really basic establishment that lets its staff shine through.
This store is really cute. Even though my pooch tears apart my own sweaters, I may just consider getting her one of these cute little items -- just in time for winter, ha ha. This little boutique has all the spoils for your dog, and is just a fun place for dog owners and their "kids." Conveniently located iright next to the train station in San Mateo, so if you're coming from either end of the Peninsula via CalTrain, it'll be your first stop! Well, after grabbing a decadent scoop at Cold Stone on the way. : )
If you'd like to make an important impact in a child's life, exploring the role of a child advocate is potentially a great opportunity. I have a friend who heard about this and checked out the orientation class and after training is now a full fledged CASA volunteer. It's amazing work that really matters. It is a commitment of time but it is also very rewarding. Check out the information and see if this might be something for you.
...because they deserve it. Show our loyal best friend how special they are to you by checking out this great new shop downtown dedicated to outfitting your companion in stylish collars, leashes, sweaters - you name it. This place carries fun and fashionable accessories to suit any dog's personality. It's a kick just perusing all the items and you might find yourself picking out something that you didn't know you couldn't live without.
Oxygen with Attitude is very professional place for the healing to begin in the body, plus a shot of NingXia Red, a delicious nutrient drink. The office is warm and cozy and feels like home atmosphere. You will enjoy your Oxygen with Attitude session. Blessings and success!
I cruised down for country nite at moons family sports pub this last thursday.. They had some cute promotion girls handing out goodies from various liquor companies, and the music the bartender played did not chap my hide nor make it too country. Ya know. Alll n all I had a fun nite ,good new drinks they had especially for that nite. I am glad to see they are doing this every thursday..It gives me a chance to hear some country tunes around here and hang out with other folks who enjoy country too. I hate going all the way to that other bar in fremont. See ya all next thursday!!!!
this taxi service is very professional in handling their client in a way that they take care of you ,on time,. and use credit card.
I went here about a month ago with a friend as a walk-in. Not my usual place, which was packed, but a nearby place that I decided to check out. Aesthetically, it was nothing spectacular -- it lacked the usual warm colors, music, and other sensories associated with self-pampering. It also took a long time -- they were short staffed and my friend was done with hers just as I was starting mine, so she had to wait. The place also needs to have better ventilation; you could smell the manicure chemicals. The staff, however, was extremely pleasant, and nearly three weeks later, my pedicure looks incredibly clean and near-new. The polish quality is very good, with hardly any chipping or fading. I am curious about their San Carlos location (30% off for new clients). If you don't mind bypassing the usual pamperfest, this is a decent location with decent prices (my ped was $25.00 and I got a great leg massage, too).
Cute pet shop in downtown San Mateo. The clothes and collars are very nice.
If you are in need of electronic components, Jameco is the place to be. The catalog and website are great ways to find what you need. What I like the best is that you can pick up the stuff at their location down on Shoreway Road.
A great place for Italian food. One of my wife's favorites, on the corner of Ralston Ave and 6th St. Anthony, the owner is a pleasure. Don't miss it.
A Great Tradition - good old cafe, next to the old Villa Hotel, the same owners of the Sky Kitchen in San Carlos, a pleasure, great family ownership.
Great Buffet. You cannot beat it for the quality of food and price. I have had lunch there many times and I am never disappointed. Get there early for lunch or you will have to wait in line for a table.
I just finished a great lunch at Acqua Pazza down on the corner of Ellsworth and 3rd Ave. Great location, good food, we really enjoyed it. Enzo, the owner is a delightful person. A great place to meet for a business lunch or casual. I ran into another associate there, the place was hopping. Ray
Town is a little above average. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not a run-of-the mill establishment. The food is tasty and filling, but expensive. This would be a good place for an appetizer and maybe a cocktail (nice wine list, too), but if you're looking for a decent meal that won't obliterate your wallet, consider Laurel Street hopping and check out Refuge for an indulgent, fresh burger or sandwich.
