My New Red Shoes, a rapidly growing Bay Area non-profit, was established two years ago and is looking to for an enthusiastic intern to join our core team.
The mission of My New Red Shoes is to empower homeless youth to succeed in school by providing them with brand new clothing for the first day of school, and by educating and rallying the youth community around the needs of homeless children. We would love an intern that could work with us from NOW until JUNE 2009, however we are flexible and can make accomodations dependent on your schedule (i.e. students looking for a semester project)
Intern Role:
October to April - The primary role of the intern will help develop and implement our educational programs with the Kids Helping Kids Program Coordinator. Responsibilities will include processing applications, assist in design of Junior Board program, maintain correspondence and liaison with shelters, speakers, etc., assistant teaching, and streamlining operations primarily for our Teen Advocacy Council. During this period, we will also be working on executing our grassroots event, “Step By Step” walk/run, where the intern will assist on executing different aspects of this event.
April to June - The role will shift to assisting the Clothing For Confidence program in helping execute the summer distribution of gifts to 2,500 Homeless Children. The intern will interface with the social service agencies in processing applications, coordinate volunteer days, and work on streamlining our shoe and gift inventory.
Hours:
We are seeking a minimum of 10hrs per week and maximum of 20hrs.
Location:
Our office is located in Burlingame—easily accessible by CalTrain. We would like 5hrs a week to served at our Burlingame location. The remaining hours can be at home and flexible. The Teen Advocacy Council takes place Tuesday from 4-5:30pm from January to April in Menlo Park and Wednesday from 4:30-6:00pm in San Francisco. It would be ideal if the intern could attend some of these sessions.
