I have been here many times and never had a bad experience. I worked at Foster City school for years and this was my stop of choice. I really think any of the Philly’s would exceed anyone’s standards and the place is very clean and the people are very kind.
I have visited Plaza Gourmet twice...once years ago when they were in the old Faletti's market in FC and once in their new location at Edgewater Shopping Center. The comment about their fruit salad not being fresh caught my eye. I will not go to this deli because both times I went, I found expired cheeses and pate in their cheese case as well as dead insects and dirt. If fact, if you look through this case, you will find that many of the expiration date stickers have been removed. When I brought this to their attention they were very rude and dismissed me. Enjoy this deli if you wish, but do it with your eyes wide open.
What a great sandwich shop - it is a little off the beaten path but worth the trip. At the suggestion of a friend, I went in with a rather complicated sandwich order (three kids and three moms) and they got the whole order right. Plus the sandwiches were delicious. I have never had such a generous salami and cheese sandwich. I can't wait to go back and try out all the other interesting sandwiches I saw listed on their menu board. And everyone was very friendly - always a plus.
I live in Foster City, and I get a turkey sandwich from Plaza Gourmet at least once a week. I've never asked them, but it appears to be a family run business. They're very friendly and get you in and out as quickly as possible. They specialize in grilled sandwiches and always have an interesting special. If I had one criticism, it's that their fruit salad isn't always really fresh. So I get everything else at the deli, and walk over to Lucky's for the fresh fruit salad. Support a great local merchant... try Plaza Gourmet Delicatessen.
Plaza Gourmet Deli is hidden away in the Edgewood Plaza Shopping Center, but the locals know where to find it. They have great deli sandwiches, salads and side dishes to go, and the best cheesesteaks in Foster City. Be sure to check out the specials board because they usually have some interesting cheesesteak alternatives, like turkey with onions and peppers. They also make the basics on the grill like hamburgers, and they have a fryer so you can add some tasty fries to your meal.
