passport renewal
I need to renew my passport. We are thinking about a Mexican cruise and my passport expires very soon. Sometimes they require that your passport is valid for at least six more months. I know that it can be done at the Post Office on Laurel, but I heard horror stories about the wait and very rude treatment there.
I just renewed my passport a month ago for a trip to Mexico, and it was SO fast and easy. I did it online and got my passport in about 2.5 weeks (NOTE: it is MUCH faster for renewals rather than for brand new passports). http://travel.state.gov/passport/get/renew/renew_833.html 1. Print out and complete the form and write a check (or money order) for $75.00. 2. Mail the old passport in along with two new pictures (must be taken digitally). Kinko's also does pics as do most of the UPS/Mailboxes, etc. places. I've attached a few resources below. 3. That's it! Have a great trip!
one thing to keep in mind - don't send in your old passpost registered mail. I did that and it got lost, so I had to start from scratch.
Believe it or not, the main branch of the beautiful and rebuilt San Mateo Public Library (on 3rd Ave.) provides passport services. Rarely a line, and if there is one, it is not very long (at least the times I've been at the library, the line has not been long.) Good luck.
