Smalltown is free

Smalltown is completely free to join. Registration is quick and simple; all you need is an email address. Once you're a member, you can write reviews or discussions, save Webcard postings to your favorites folder for easy access and even create your own Webcards.

Customizing your profile

Each Smalltown member automatically gets their own profile Webcard. Whenever you write a review or discussion, a thumbnail of your profile will appear. Clicking the thumbnail opens your profile to let other members view any information you put there.

We encourage members to add a photo and description. You can do this by opening "my posts" folder on the left, then click "edit." You can even attach Webcard postings for your favorite businesses to your profile. It's easy; just drag the thumbnails from your favorites folder onto your profile, or click "attach a Webcard" to do a quick search. You can attach as many Webcards as you like.

How Webcard postings stack up

Just as you can attach Webcard postings to your profile, you can attach any Webcard to any other Webcard. Clicking on the small "thumbnail" view of a Webcard opens it in place. To get back to the original Webcard, just click its title bar.

Searching on Smalltown

Local content on Smalltown is divided into three tabs: Webcards, reviews and discussions. The Webcard tab shows all the business, service and classified listings. If you want to sell your car or announce your garage sale, this is where your Webcard Posting will appear. The reviews tab is where you go to read up on the best or worst of the town. Discussions are more free-form; this is a great place to post a question to your neighbors.

When you do a search, you get results in all three tabs. Let's say you're looking for a local pet sitter. With just one search, you can see the Webcard Postings for pet sitters, read their reviews and see if there are any interesting discussions that mention pet sitters.

Smalltown delivers results from your town and surrounding towns. Want to search your town only? Uncheck "include surrounding towns." You can also use the pull down menu to sort results by highest rated or alphabetically. Clicking on "view newest" updates the tab with the latest results.
