50th birthday ideas?
Looking for ideas to celebrate a 50th birthday with a medium-large group. Would be in January. A tropical-themed venue would be ideal. Also looking at a roller skating party or go karting in Burlingame. Give me some fun/unique ideas.
For my husband's 50th we had a massive foam-dart battle at the park (with a few other families), then had a joke-telling session after dinner. Everyone (adults and children) had been asked to bring one joke to tell -- many brought more than one. It was fun, low-key and inexpensive. ;)
How about a dance party with instructors for ballroom/tango/salsa or square dancing?
There are a ton of websites that offer up idea for special birthdays (and aren't they all!). Some of them include: www.birthdaypartyideas.com www.partydirectory.com www.reasontoparty.com If you can hand-deliver them, fun invites might include recycled clear plastic water bottles, with an "SOS" invitation inside with some sand. If you're into games, perhaps you could enlist some Gilligan's Island Trivia (and maybe put to rest the perennial dispute of Ginger vs. Mary Ann, LOL). A hula or limbo contest is always fun. As for venues, try our local Parks & Rec departments, as they may be more affordable. Another possibility (I think free for SM County residents) might be the Pulgas Water Temple in San Mateo (event permits at 650-872-5900), although January weather may not lend to an outdoor event. I'll reply back if I think of other things! Have fun planning!!
for a really great resource that can put together everything or just pieces and parts like the food and bar give a call to Bob Santana at Crystal Springs Catering... they are a local company (been in town since he was in high school) and very well connected to venues, other service providers, and overall a gerat company to work with... his number is 650 222 5343
well a sky diving party is fun and it makes you feel alive...but you have to go to Lodi and lets face it who wants to do that...I like goldens idea with the dancing, I believe it was the instuctor aspect! Wine tasting is fun, but can be a bit pricy. happy birthday!!!
I just got invited to a 50th birthday party at an indoor sky diving place. It looks like great fun. Check out their website. They've got a nice video that shows you what it's like. It's in Union City so that's bettter than Lodi :-) iFly SF Bay • 31310 Alvarado-Niles Rd. • Union City, CA 94587 tel: (510) 489-IFLY • (510) 489-4359 • fax: (510) 401-5198 info@iFlySFBay.com
I second the suggestion on the indoor skydiving! Not sure if most of the guests could stomach the experience, however. You could maybe make a weekend out of different events, maybe one for each decade: 1 - 10 years: the movies, then ice cream, then... 11 - 20: bowling or miniature golfing (the quintessential high school date, LOL) 21 - 30: great dinner/wine tasting or wine lounge fun (see webcards below) 31 - 40: make your own pottery day -- each guest makes you a plate and you have a complete, commemorative set (there are a number of cool places along the Peninsula, see below for one) 41 - 50: skydiving, indoor climbing: in Fremont -- http://www.citybeach.com/ (see additional webcard below for local site) 51, Day 1: recover from all of the above, lol Just some thoughts. : ) Have a great time!!!
