Is there much difference or is one route better than the other-- I'm in SM near Hwy 92 bridge going to Grass Valley. I can go across the SM bridge, take 580 to I 5 and then proceed OR I can go across the SM bridge, take I80 to Sacramento and proceed OR -- my last choice up the peninsula across the Bay Bridge and then I-80. They all look to be nearly the same in mileage and time-- I've never been the I-5 route. Comments or suggestions?

Hi: I try to avoid I-80 whenever possible. The Berkeley-Oakland area can become a real mess. On the other hand, I don't know about the 580 to I-5 route and whether that's better or not. Good luck!
