healthier food
I work downtown, so it is only natural that I take advantage of all the wonderful local restaurants for lunch. However, these local establishments are taking a toll on my waistband. Can anyone reccomend a healthy restaurant or two that I could use as an alternative to my regular diet? Thanks.
I understand how you feel -- San Mateo is blessed with a bevy of restaurants but not many of them scream "healthy." I'm sure many of these fine restaurants have healthier choices, but one place I'm sure to get something fresh is at Trag's: they offer a pretty nice salad bar with fresh fruit and vegetables, which is always a fantastic option. Pick up a bottled water or green tea beverage and your body will thank you! For a healthy dessert fix, try Yogurtouille: self serve fro-yo with decacaden treat toppings or healthy fruit options. I, too, am curious to know of other places in the area that cater to this discussion, so please, everybody, share the love! : )
Totally agree that San Mateo (and many cities along the Peninsula) lack the healthy gene. I also agree about Trags and their salad bar -- to my knowledge, there's nothing really else. I did see, however, that the Specialty's Cafe webcard was in the last discussion, and I just have to tell you what incredible sandwiches they offer: everything is made to order, including the homemade bread (itself worth going). But you need to get there early or phone in your order -- the lunch lines seep out the door. I'd love to hear from some of the businesses out there... are there more of you offering up the fresh, healthy, or organic?
Try Cafe Soulstice! I was a bit hesitant the first time I went, but the food is great. Everything is organic and served raw. In this case, raw doesn't mean bland.
