I can't even begin to tell you how great my ring turned out. I found this store,on my computer, when searching for jewelers in San Mateo. I am new to this area and didn't have a jeweler. So, I gave this place a shot. I checked out their website and liked what it said. My first impression was, " Wow, This guy knows his stuff." There were pictures all over the store of things he had designed and made for lots of other people. I was so impressed by his knowledge & talent. He said he is a third generation jeweler. I can believe it. There was also a girl designer there. She makes jewelry with pearls and beads. The store was filled with jewelry Ed & Karen have made. The two of them helped me design a ring. They even recycled my old jewelry. I used some of the diamonds out of an old wedding band and pendent my Ex had given to me. Then I picked a stone they had in the showcase for the center. I have never been so happy. I am telling everyone to go to Galati Jewelers. Thank you. I wouldn't go any where else.
Recently I purched the lighting for my house from Niko Lighting not only were there products unique with great quality, but the owner Edman was very helpfull in consulting us with choosing the proper light indoor and outdoor.
recently enjoyed a really cool nite of karaoke,I did not sing well but other folks did.Have not tried the food there yet but I will soon . Those potato skins looked really good. I understand they also opened a ice cream side with all of the candy. I as well as my nephew will enjoy. The bartender john is a riot and he will be the reason we will come back.
Annie is the best in town. She goes above and beyond the nomal strip mall cleaners. Great service, price and attitude.
My daughter and I have been going to Kristina at Shear Magic for more than six years. We were initially referred to Kristina to help correct a botched hi-lite done at one of the more expensive well-known salons off Burlingame Avenue. Kristina is very knowlegeable and has done an excellent job hi-liting my daughters hair and coloring mine. Kristina is also great with up-do's and has been there for all the prom's, dances and weddings we've attended for these past several years. We highly recommend her!
Vicky is wonderful! She does an excellent job cutting and styling my hair. And, She always does the perfect color for my hair and skin tone... which does change through the seasons a lot. I've sent my friend to go and see her, too. He loves the job she does on his hair as well. She is the best!
Just brought my dog Beau to the Paw Spa. WOW! He looks the best he has ever looked! Everyone was so friendly and nice. Beau tends to be a bit vocal sometimes, but they even put up with that. On the way home he told me how well he was treated! The people at the Paw Spa did a great job. I will definitely be bringing Beau back...if they will have him - I'll bring them some earplugs next time! - grin! Thanks so much Paw Spa!
I really enjoy Thai food, and downtown San Mateo has their share of restaurants toting Thai. I recently dined here with some friends and the service was prompt and courteous. The food was very reasonably priced, ample for a lunch portion and good (not earth-shattering good, but tasty). I've not dined here in the evening, but this is a terrific lunch spot and I'm guessing that dinner would be just as good.
I stroll into Trags about once a week, maybe two. Even though I don't consider myself a "regular", I am always greeted with a smile and a hello as if I have been shopping there for years. Trags has a great location in downtown San Mateo (a block from CalTrain), and the perfect place for everyday items or a fresh salad for lunch or dinner. Headed to the Giants game? Hit the deli and enjoy it on the train ride to the park. The chain stores (specifically Safeway) is always overcrowded, and I enjoy the intimate yet well-stocked selection at Trags. If I need a specialty item not carried at Trags, they are more than happy to refer me to other local shops that may carry it. They really get the customer service aspect, which in today's go-go-go world is really a refreshing change.
I brought my handsome wire haired fox terrier for a wash and brush, expecting only that. I got so much more. Not only did Kirsten do a superb job at making my boy look dashing, she lovingly and thoughtfully did a thorough body inspection. She discovered he had two hot spots, and observed that he preferred nail grinding to nail cutting. When I picked up my darling pooch he was in an open area (not in a kennel which he and I hate) which I very much appreciated and he was not visibly stressed as he usually is after grooming. I highly recommend Kirsten if you are looking for a groomer who obviously loves dogs (I've wondered about some other groomers I've seen), is a talented groomer and who goes beyond just washing and clipping. Thank you Kirsten, you're awesome.
The hottest Bar on the Peninsula is ROUTE 92. You must drop by and see how this Bar is now all cleaned up. All the drugies have left the Bar. Plus they have the most beautiful Bartenders you have ever seen. Every night you have a different Hot looking Bartender who makes all the patrons feel so welcomed. The new owner has done wonders for this bar and plus he's hot! Drop by and see the dramatic change he has done for the Bar.
Went for dinner and enjoyed the quality of the food and service. This was a business dinner and I brought a client. Unfortunately this was a Monday and the live music was on. The music was loud to the extend it was impossible to have a regular conversation. Keep the beef, but turn the musicdown a little as it is a restaurant and not a dance hall...
I have traveled a fair amount in Thailand and enjoyed the Thai cusine in any shape or form. I was less than impressed with the quality of the food at Coconut Bay, but I am willing to give it another chance as there are not too many Thai places in Burlingame.
I must say that I am usually not the largest fan of Thai food, but this restaurant truly suprised me. I came here for a lunch with my co-workers because they had heard rave reviews. I didn't order anything that was too far out of my comfort zone, but I was still very impressed by my dish and I have truly formed a new opinion of Thai food.
I have been a faithful customer for well over 15 years. I did not mind spending the extra money, because the end result was always great...I believe the business must have been sold awhile ago, the service is nothing like it used to be and the prices are higher and no more coupons...my last visit and I mean my last visit was not a pleasant one. I had my car washed last Friday am before leaving on a trip. When I got into my car I noticed my ashtray looked odd...NICE TRY trying to hide the fact that it was broken. When I pulled it out the ashtray was broken in two...I complained and someone (he never even introduced himself), I believe the owner sauntered over-a bit smugly and said "guess we could glue it" I told him I wanted a new one and he said, "your car is not new, why would I get you a new ashtray" I said it was not broken when I brought the car in and he actually said, "Well no one jumped up and down on it" huh??? No apology, nothing, I was so incensed I left. Perhaps if he had been a bit more customer orientated or even offered a free wash or something, I would not be so angry and the fact that they tried to hide the broken the ashtray in the first place - needless to say I will never be back.
I recently ordered flowers for a friend from San Mateo Florist. I was initially dubious about purchasing from here, because the woman told me over the phone that she could have the arrangement "done within 10 minutes." I opted to wait and pick it up the next day, because I wanted fresher flowers. Still somewhat skeptical, I took a chance and was relieved when out came a beautiful arrangement of flowers, many of which were still budding and would continue to bloom. My friend was delighted at the bouquet and even two weeks later was still enjoying it. I will definitely try this florist again.
Food is always fairly good but be careful when using gift cards. I used one then checked the balance the next day since i lost the receipt. To my surprise a waiter copied the number then subtracted teh amount. After they insisted i used it they looked at the reciets and found that i in fact did have a difference that was cashed out as a tip. they replaced the card but i dont know if i will be usuing anything but cash there from now on.
I have two doodles and they are a handful. They are constantly rolling around in the dirt, so they are always dirty. Paw Spa does a great job at cleaning and grooming them. Not to mention they are not the easiest dogs to groom. So I recommend you take your puppies and dogs to the Paw Spa, the people there are very nice and they do a great job!
I was ecstatically happy when I saw that this restaurant had opened in downtown San Mateo. As soon as I got the chance I stopped in to check out the Taiyaki that they make. First of all, the store just looks super cool, which adds to the comfortable but quarky environment that the shop offers. The staff were so kind and conversational unlike many local establishments where the adlescent cashiers couldn't care less about how your day is going. And finally my half-school (6 pieces) of Nutella filled Taiyaki was ready, and it was amazing. This store is definately worth trying whether you have heard of Taiyaki or not. You'll love it.
Went here the other day with some friends for lunch. Had been meaning to go for a few weeks and finally managed the drive from San Mateo. It was worth the drive (which is saying something with gas prices at over $4.50 a gallon!) Our table had a selection of sandwiches and burgers and everyone agreed they were all perfectly prepared. It started with the sharing of my French fries. Before I could even sample them my co-workers stammered with praise for their perfectly crisp exterior and outstanding flavor. So I rapidly cut off their supply and selfishly kept the remainder to myself. My Patty Melt was cooked to perfection with caramelized onions and fresh rye bread. Along with the black cherry soda it was completely satisfying. Highly recommended.
This is my local place to go when I want a delicious spicy red snapper taco and a chicken tostada. I may be in a rut because this is always what I order but it fits the bill perfectly. Get fresh tasting food prepared to order. Quick, reasonably priced, filling and healthier than a fast food burger and fries. And I can sneak a few chips and a nice selection of fresh salsas to take way with me. Who could ask for more?
I had so much fun during camp couture!!!!! It was so great I suggested it to all my friends and am looking forward to taking it again. located down the street from joanns, it is so easy and convenient to just pick up some more fabric when you run out or if you want to start a new project. At couture camp I was able to make 2 makeup bags and a cool cape(i know what you are thinking, and no, not like superman) For child or teen looking for sewing lessons Camp couture is the camp for you. Trust me on that one.
I had heard rave reviews of Laurel Street's latest entry into the wine pub genre, so here I went. The decor is reminiscent of Fanny & Alexander/Stanford Pub with a comfortable, casual elegance about it. Dark, pub-like colors lend to the attempt at booth dining privacy. The eclectic menu is more upscale, fresher, just as filling, and makes up for a somewhat inattentive staff. And if you're into Old World wines, France is in the spotlight at Refuge, opening her heart and spilling a fabulous selection of champagnes and other lifeblood accompaniments which would pair wonderfully with the nice assortment of chartcuterie.
I had the most stubborn dog ever. She would always jump on people to greet them and you could forget about walking her on leash. She would pull you down the street. Jim Mogavero fixed all that within minutes! No kidding. My dog was walking perfectly on voice control after spending just 15 minutes with Jim. You would have to see it to believe it.
A great place for dinner too. Food is prepared fresh and arrives hot and delicious. A must try if you are alone or with friends.
It seems difficult to many good places to have breakfast in the area. Our Place is a good choice. The food, service and prices are very good. Why wait for ever on a waiting list when you can eat at Our Place?
I am pregnant for the first time and thought that maternity clothes would cost a fortune since they are a specialty item. Motherhood has great prices and a large selection. The salespeople at the Hillsdale location are very helpful and friendly too. The store is too small for the amount of merchandise but they are moving accross the way to a larger store.
Bean Street Coffee has great tasting coffee, more flavors for coffee than anyone else and many yummy food choices. The atmosphere is intimate and warm and the prices are good.
I needed a smog check at the last minute and didn't know where to go. I made a great choice with AAA Smog & Test. I was in and out within 20 minutes and the gentleman who helped me was friendly and professional.
I used to see myself as a lazy, fat person. I never worked out, never walked, never rode a bike and never able to wear the fashionable clothes that I sell and love so much... until I heard from my friend, Karen about Fitness 19 and its awesome rate. I decided to join, and then I met Eleazar. Who knew a personal trainer could be so personable? I always thought they'd be like drill sergeants at boot camp: "Get down and give me 20," without really caring about me as a person or what my fitness goals are. But Eleazar isn't like that. He encourages, supports and revitalizes me as no one else does. Slowly my life is changing. I wake up and I have a destination before I start work: the gym, where everyone is like Eleazar: supportive and friendly. I do my 30 minutes of cardio and the rest of my workout and that fat self -- the one who wanted to be lazy, who wanted to tell me I'm worthless, who wanted me to be a failure -- disappears with each drop of sweat. No longer lazy, I have the energy to run my store all day and night if need be. Also, thanks to Fitness 19 and my personal trainer, I know what and how to eat -- something I never quite did right. I keep a food diary, and Eleazar and I go over it and he suggests how I can improve my nutrition. In other words, I now have guidance as I work towards my fitness goals. I feel that the changes I am making in my day to day acivities are adding years to my life. I am on my way and closer to my goal each day and in mind, I've lost more fat than anyone can ever count. And that to me makes me feel great achievement and success for myself and for my career. Especially being a fashion boutique owner. Now I not only sell the clothes to my customers, I wear them too! I like myself and the way I look now ... imagine me saying that before I started with Eleazar. This stuff is I'm sleeping better, lose weight and feel 10 yrs younger
I took my pug to The Paw Spa Salon last week and she came back to me happy, clean and smelling great. She can now sleep in bed with us ; -) They also did a very cute follow up thank you card with a Pug on the front. 5 paws!
I've been to this shop six times since it opened and I have never been unsatisfied. Definately get the yogurts labeled as tangy if you want the full yogurtouille effect or get the classic chocolate or vanilla if your in the mood for a regular flavor. I also like that the flavors change often and they have many unique tastes in their arsenal at all times. For instance today they had tangy lychee in the place where the tangy guava was last week, so it is always a suprise when you walk in. All the yogurts are also non-fat which eliminates a bit of the guilt factor. This shop is independent so by going here you are supporting a local buisness and not a mass media chain corperation
This guy was a huge mistake. I had two minor traffic tickets (very minor - not speeding). There was little to no communication with Majeed, I created documents to describe my view on the both tickets, he put them in a folder and never looked at them. Seven months later I get a letter in the mail to attend 2nd second level traffic school, except I already attended. So I called Majeed law office and they (Kelley) said he would call me back - no call back. Another week later I get another notice, the second ticket I have to attend 2nd level traffic school. I called Majeed law firm 14 days in a row - HE NEVER CALLED BACK !! I finally called San Mateo DMV and they said both tickets were added to my license. So both tickets are points on my license and I had to paid $380 fine for each ticket plus $300 to Majeed. What a waste. The only time you will talk to him is when he collects your money.
I'm a beginner and I'm delighted in the variety of classes offered at Nandi Yoga. Wendy designed this studio for various levels and experience. This is the first green studio I've taken classes at with the equipment designed to be used to enhance your practice. There was plenty of street parking in this up and coming area of San Mateo. I personally have taken the Yin class and a men's stretch glass (I'm not a man) and was welcomed anyways. Both classes were wonderfully taught and guided. I'm looking forward in taking more classes with the rest of the teachers.
What a great massage and a nice girl, very relaxing and the deep pressure I need for my very active life style. You wouldn't know it from the outside but the studio looks outstanding, I feel like royalty!!! Ania was also able to give me some great information about how I can take better care of myself.
This store is great for finding obscure as well as popular books. Not only is it an independent establishment, but they also supply books to the AP English classes at Aragon High School. The staff are extremely friendly and easy to converse with about all things literaray. Definately the best book store in San Mateo.
I wouldn't exactly call this an art store as much as a quick stop for supplies for a children's school or art project. They carry many types of art supplies, but the tacky little decorative things for sale make it seem as though you are shopping at Joanne's instead of a true art store. Great store for your kid's art project, not yours.
I just had the opportunity to visit Nandi Yoga, a new yoga studio in San Mateo. The facilities are amazing - 3 different studios with the largest one just beautiful - large, high beam ceiling, lots of light, very tranquil and a great environment to do yoga. I'm relatively new at yoga and they were able to help me figure out the right type of classes and type of yoga for me. The changing room and showers are clean and very nice - will make it easy to take a shower in the morning on my way to work.
Dave Matoso and his team are just terrific. They provide the highest quality care. It is wonderful to know a place with people you can trust. My husband's experience with Apex was so great after his shoulder surgery that I also went to Apex to recover from my shoulder surgery. When my son needed therapy for his shoulder we had no hesitation in taking him to Dave as well.
On the first day of camp i pretty much learned how to load my sewing machine. By the second day i learned how to sew pajama pants and a beach bag it was so fun! By the third day i learned how to sew a zipper it was so awesome. Anyone who wants to learn how to be a fashion designer should sign up for this camp.
What a fun idea. This would especially be a unique house-warming gift, tailor made to suit the owners' home style and personality. A little extravagant with the curtains and all, but perhaps you could consider a condo-version with Pergo and those plastic blinds? Kidding aside, I never would have found this had I not been looking for a mailbox location. When this popped up, it was a additional surprise to my search. Very fun.
Hi Neighbors, Just wanted to share that I had dinner last night at Spasso's on Laurel in San Carlos and was favorably impressed. I went with three others, we all had something different (seared scallops, salmon, veal picatta and a cappelini dish), and all loved what we had. The calamari appetizer also had green beans with it and they were especially good. The atmosphere is really nice, the bartender was extremely friendly. Our waiter was a bit slow as were the entries in arriving but otherwise we all enjoyed it and will definitely return. Denise
Wendy Klein has opened a terrific new green yoga studio close to central San Mateo and the train station. I have been attending classes at the studio for the last few weeks including Bhakti Flow, Ashtanga Vinyasa and Yin/Yang. These classes have been a mix of novices (me) and advanced students, including other yoga instructors. Wendy and the other instructors focus on helping the students learn the varying practices in yoga within each student's limitations and experience. In my case, props and alternative poses are suggested due to limited flexibility and joint issues. In a very short period (3 weeks), I find that I stand taller, my shoulders and back are less cramped "from being at a keyboard" and I feel better and stronger. Nandi Yoga also has green-based yoga clothing, mats and props available for purchase at reasonable costs. This turns out to be a plus when you are a novice particularly since mats come in different thickenesses resulting in different comfort levels for each person. Lastly, they also have great kids classes. I was at the studio last night for a class which was followed by a family yoga class. The laughter and exurbance radiated through the studio.
The Paw Spa Salon is airy and attractive. The dogs can interact, which my white poodle mix, seemed to enjoy. She came out looking beautiful and acting happy!
This class is a good way of learning the basics of sewing and the construction of garments. I learned a great deal about using the machine along with learning how to use different cloths and patterns. It has a great environment for anyone to learn- I am a senior in highschool and enjoy this class as much as everyone else. I learned how to translate my own designs into real life garments that i could wear right out of the class. I'm really glad i took this class!

My pup always comes out looking so cute after she gets groomed here. I have never seen a bad cut on any dog that comes out of this place. No complaints about the facility as the previous post mentions. Staff is very good with the animals. I know my pup and I love this place!
Very talented stylists here really know their stuff! I have never seen a parking meter around this area as someone previously posted. Their prices are fair for a salon of this caliber. I have been coming here for years and have never had a complaint. On my last visit I heard it recently changed ownership and I have to say it seems like a very good and welcomed change.
