Town is a little above average. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not a run-of-the mill establishment. The food is tasty and filling, but expensive. This would be a good place for an appetizer and maybe a cocktail (nice wine list, too), but if you're looking for a decent meal that won't obliterate your wallet, consider Laurel Street hopping and check out Refuge for an indulgent, fresh burger or sandwich.
Apparently this is the place to See And Be Seen in San Carlos. I've eaten here twice and walked past many times, it's always very crowded and noisy. This is not the place for a quiet romantic dinner.
The food is good quality but also expensive. It's very easy to drop over $50 a person here, especially if you try any of the fancy cocktails.
Bottom line, if someone else is buying or you're looking to impress someone it's worth considering. But if you want a nice enjoyable meal where you can carry on a conversation, for the money you can do better elsewhere.
I remember when this place was A Tavola, and after the fire ruined the place I wondered what might resurrect there. Town is like a young Hollywood star: fresh, hip, and lively with dark interior. Their wine list is generous but not overwhelming, and complements their simple yet hearty entree menu. If you don't mind the noise (quite boisterous with the arrival of Happy Hour), this is a nice place to check out if out on the San Carlos town.
If you don't mind the boisterous atmostphere (after 5:00p), this place has a delicious menu with a nice variety. The wine list is well-planned to accompany many of their dishes. Al fresco dining is a must in the summer, but right now it's a cozy spot around the bar or near the open-air kitchen. A bit difficult to carry a conversation, but a lively place indeed. Moderate to pricey.
