This restaurant was created for the purpose of bringing you closer to a cuisine that is well loved around the world. The South, better known as the melting pot of diverse cultures, has always been noted for their rich cooking heritage created by some of the world greatest chefs. In my restaurant I have taken that delightful cuisine and given it wings so that it may rise up and fly into the New Millennium as we open up doors of the big easy to the wonderful fresh clean flavors of the left coast. From the first time you walk into Gator's Neo-Soul Cafe you feel the warmth from the melted butter walls and comforting hints of brown and copper. The feel of home — and in my house you are at home. So with that said, I want you to know that in my house you are company... not customers. You see, I believe that cooking food comes from the heart. It first starts from your eyes... then your nose... then your taste buds. But without the warmth from your heart the pot will never get started. Neo-soul is a commitment to the saying "all bad things must come to a end" and with that we are committed to keeping that robust flavor that the South has, but removing all the impurities that make it an unhealthy cuisine to enjoy. We will be committed to using the right fats, proteins and carbs that the body can digest freely and in the proper fashion. We all know the key to healthy eating is moderation, so we will be presenting our food to you in the proper portions so that you can enjoy one of America's greatest cuisine without feeling guilty the next day. So, simply put, neo-soul is just the new way of understanding Southern food in a more healthier fashion. And remember flavor, flavor and more flavors. That's what we're about.

New place for a relaxing drink
I was walking down B Street the other night and the live music coming from Gator's Neo Soul restaurant drew me in. What a nice surprise to find a local spot for live music with such a warm, inviting and comfortable home-like atmosphere. I was told their latest expansion with the new bar and lounge area opened just recently and they've managed to extend the warm feeling into the new space. Almost like a grand home with two big living room/dining room areas – and they treat you just like one of the family. Except that I've never had such great tasting "home cooking". Gator turns out fantastic food in a wonderful atmosphere. Glad to see this addition to San Mateo's downtown. Jim Tillotson CMT 's review

Good place for Sunday Brunch!
My wife and I happened in on this place for a Sunday brunch and thoroughly enjoyed the expecrienc! The service was good. The food was tasty and unique. The the live jazz trio was a positive addition to the atmosphere but was a little loud for us from where we were sitting. (Next time we'll as for a table a little further away). We'll definitely be back!
