Pass through red velvet curtains, walk onto a marble mosaic tiled floor and view one of Left Bank’s largest vintage French advertising posters. Behind the host stand is an illuminated display of Marseille pastis. Enter the Grand Salon and witness marble countertops in the exhibition kitchen accented with a coquillage display, flame-shaped lamps and custom mica light fixtures, arched windows, wide plank hardwood floors and mahogany millwork, genuine French chairs, red booths and banquettes with Parisian hat racks, antique mirrors and festive, authentic French lithographs — a few of the numerous details that say “Left Bank.”

Very nice service
We ate at the Left Bank in San Mateo this weekend and had a very nice time. The good service was especially notable. Our toddler thought the Macaroni and Cheese was too sharp and they cordially replaced it with a mini burger. My wife forgot to warn the waiter that she can't eat anchovies, and they were perfectly willing to make her a new salad without them. Of course there was also a glass of spilled milk that made a mess. In addition to being very accommodating, the food they served was excellent. In honor of Cannes going on in France, they had old black and white French films projected on sheets hanging on the wall. An added plus is that there is lots of free parking in the lot below street level. We will definitely return. Buster's review

Better than when they first opened
I tried Left Bank when they first opened in San Mateo and was a little disappointed. But my wife and I ate there this weekend and we had a very nice experience. The salads were very fresh and tasty without being over-dressed. My grilled chicken sandwich was delicious, and my 2.5 year old daughter loved the French fries. The service was very friendly without being overly attentive. And it's just a nice space to be in. Give it a try, and if you were not impressed in the past, I say give them another try ;-)
