An excellent new food option in SM

I work near the new B Street & Vine Wine Bar / Cafe. I've been putting off trying it because I don't drink wine. But I finally got around to having lunch there today, and I'm really happy to have another nice dining alternative in downtown San Mateo. The atmosphere is casual and pleasant, with outside seating in the back. I loved the artwork on the walls; surprisingly fun and sophisticated paintings for San Mateo. The menu items are simple, Italian-influenced and limited, but it all looked very fresh and tasty: appetizers, panini, salads, a variety of bruschetta and desserts. As you’d expect, the menu is focused on foods that go well with wine. I had the bruschetta and it was really, really tasty. And unusual, because there were many different types and I got to choose four different ones. I had tomato and mozzarella, gorgonzola and honey, apple and brie, and artichoke with sun dried tomatoes. I could only finish about half and took the rest with me. I think a great meal would be to split the bruschetta plate with a friend and have a glass of wine. Maybe for dinner add a small salad. On the way out I noticed they have a live jazz band in the evenings. I say check it out soon and support a new local restaurant in downtown that is doing things a little differently and raising the bar a bit.
