I'll be needing to move out of my apartment at the end of the month and was wondering if anyone had recommendations for getting some boxes for packing up my belongings. I know some of the places like U-Haul and Public Storage sells moving boxes. I'm hoping to find a place that's a bit cheaper but where I can still get a good collection of same sized small and medium boxes so that they are easy to stack and move.

If you're looking for some free boxes, I can think of three places where you might want to check: Safeway, Trader Joe's and Shoe Pavilion. Frequently, you can call the manager and they will save them for you.

FreeCycling is an email list that often has used moving boxes offered for free. You can post that you want some, or just read the posts until someone offers moving boxes. You then pick them up when it's convenient for both of you. There is a FreeCycling group for Burlingame at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Burlingame/ and one for Palo Alto at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pafree/

We just finished a kitchen remodel and will have many medium sized boxes available after 4/7. We would love to donate them to you rather than toss or recycle them. Please call if you can use them. Patti 650.573.5464

If you don't yet have a lead, have you contacted Golden Bear Moving? I read on the Daily Digest that they have environmentally-friendly moving crates that would eliminate the need for cardboard. Not sure what that costs, but it might be worth a call. Good luck with your move!

Thanks to Patti I have some boxes for the move. It's nice to be able to reuse rather than buy new ones. I also joined the Freecycle group here in San Mateo based on the recommendation from Louise. Thanks for all the great feedback and suggestions. This has been a great help. And if anyone else has some small or medium boxes to give away I could still use a few more.

Hi Mike...happy to help out a fellow mover! But, yikes...I need the KitchenAid box back. Apparently, I need to cut the UPC code out from it to get a $50 rebate from them. I tossed your phone number after you picked up the boxes. Please call me. Thanks! Patti 573.5464

Hi Patti, I'll check the garage for the KitchenAid box. I think it's the box I ended up packing inside another box so it may take me a moment to locate it, but I think it's still around. I'll follow up with a phone call once I locate it. I hope we can manage to get you your rebate, especially since you were being such a good neighbor by giving me the free boxes. Karma will prevail! :-)
