Computer Connection Issues
I am having some connection problems on my computer and am hoping someone has an idea of the problem before I have to call someone and pay $$$. I called my ISP, SBC/AT&T and they say because it is a 3rd party issue, it will cost me $100. I am using Vista. I AM able to connect to the internet and also receive and send out my email without any problems, however, here is the problem that began a week or so ago: When I start up my computer my trend micro antivirus comes up with a msg saying "Without a working connection to the internet, you cannot download the latest updates that help keep your computer safe. Please reconnect your computer to the internet immediately". This is strange since I am already connected to the internet. When I'm in Craigslist, for example, if I want to reply to an ad and click on the email address given, the message I get says "Couldn't perform this operation because the default mail client isn't properly installed". If I click on "OK" the next message comes up and says I can click to diagnose the connection problem and then that comes up saying to contact my ISP. The third problem is similar to the second one - if I have an email open and I want to click on an email address in the body of the email, I get pretty much the same error message as the one I get in Craigslist. The only thing I have done different on this computer prior to this happening was to install Word 2000. I use Office 2007 but some places can't/won't accept the new word document format thus I thought I'd install the old word program. I have since uninstalled the Word 2000 program and I think my problems began shortly thereafter but not sure if they could be connected. I'm sorry to be long-winded here but am hoping someone has some suggestions before I have to put out $100+ to resolve this problem. Really, the email and "Craigslist" issue I can work around but it's the anti-virus one I'm more concerned with. I know once one is resolved they will all be resolved though. Thanks so much!
