Why scoop the poop and how does that equal the nee
At a recent meeting to establish new dog parks it was very apparent that most people do not understand the hazards of POOP. Dog and cat poop will not composite in normal compost heaps to a safe level. There are many pathogens in pet waste. There is too much info to post here but here is a link with a lot of info. There are also, many articles on the web. http://www.doodycalls.com/resources_toxic_dog_waste.asp With 149,000 dogs (2005) between SSF and Mountain View Poop in public parks is an issue that causes tension between dog owners and non-dog owners. On a recent walk one of our dog park committee members counted 22 piles before she gave up counting. Nobody wants to see that on their walk in the park. Many issues here, ill-responsible owners ect. Throwing the Poop into the public garbage bins at parks is unsanitary. People dig through it for recyclables then touch other things kids get into them etc. So we need more a place for dogs to go off leash that will reduce the burden on City parks. Also better waste receptacles, like our Gladiator. We have a program where a company can advertise on the unit for $22/wk and we will maintain the unit replace bags and remove the waste and 5% of the proceeds will be donated to the peninsula humane society san mateo. There is a need to Scoop the Poop, that’s why we are here and to give back to the communities we serve and our track record proves it.
As an avid trail hiker and runner (trails AND roads), I can really appreciate the comments posted here by the folks at DoodyCalls. In addition to the pathological hazards, there is danger in possibly slipping on pet waste and incurring injury. I absolutely love animals and love seeing dogs out and about in parks, on trails, on the bike paths. Hopefully pet owners in-the-know will see this and encourage others to dispose of pet waste, either through a professional or by their own means. Thanks for posting this topic!
Dog play areas in and about exisiting parks in areas that are seldom used by people could be fenced off for off-leash play will help get the poop off our kids baseball uniforms and out of the play areas for children. Both dog owners and non-dog owners alike could be happy.
