I have a floor question

I have removed a wall between two bedrooms to make one master bedroom, and I want to fill the gap, all 4 and 1/2 inches with oak to match the floors in the other two bedrooms. the issue is that the floors are off by about 2 millimeters. I do realize that I could if I was so inclined, rip up one room to match the other but I am not that motivated. It is a nail down floor and that would take a day alone simply to not destroy the wood. I could also run the planks perpendicular to the existing floor, but then I would have an accent piece on the floor where I did not intend to have one, and I really do want to increase the value of the home. So I guess the question is how much would it bother you if there was an oak floor in your master bedroom and in the middle the planks (2 maybe 3) where perpendicular to the rest of the room? Having been in construction most of my life between working on the building side and now on the management side I would suggest you focus on the the continuity. A buyer down the road may not like the look. At the very least, I would match the pattern and stain the better looking floor and just have the two floor meet at one line across. Chet Clark is a good source for small job tie ins. He did a great job on a small spot inour old house..no one could tell which way I opened the wall up. 650-888-9351

I'd agree with Dr. Joe. The contrasting strip might be interesting, but could very well be an issue for future buyers. It does seem like matching the better floor and allowing the visible difference to appear along one line where they meet is the least objectionable option. Good luck! Or just invest in a strategically placed area rug...problem solved :-)
