Quick bento box and sushi to go
This San Mateo Japanese grocer is a great place to get a quick lunch to go and eat at the bench outside enjoying the sunshine. There is such a wide selection of food. Even if you are not a big fan of Japanese food, it is worth to try it out.

San Mateo is lucky to have Suruki
This is one of the places that makes San Mateo great. The fish is really fresh and top notch. My favorite home cooked meal now is a nice piece of their tuna very quickly seared on the outside and raw inside. Their tuna is much better and cheaper than Draeger's. The only trick is to get your pan scorching hot before searing the tuna, and (most importantly) don’t let it cook through! Accompany this with sautéed Japanese eggplant and shitake mushrooms, and you have an easy to make, delicious meal. Quick, tasty and nutricious. Mmmm, I'm getting hungy writing this. Gotta go...
