I'm having guests for dinner next week and want to serve a nice but not too expensive white wine, probably some kind of Pinot Grigio. But i'm a real novice when it comes to wine, and don't know what to buy. I want to spend no more than $12. Thanks, Vicky

Go to a real wine store (not a supermarket), describe your menu, what you like, and price point (be honest!). Don't be shy about asking for advice, good wine clerks just love to offer opinions. A few of my favorite local suggestions: - 750 ml. A little pricey, but you can find some bargains if you look. An added advantage is that they have a lot of wines available for tasting, so you might be able to try before you buy. - Bevmo. No really. They have a decent selection, Saturday afternoons there's usually a wine guy working. Sometimes have guest tastings. I think the 5 cent sale is on again too, if you need a lot. - Wine Stop. Little more snooty than Bevmo. Great selection though, and usually pretty knowledgeable clerks.

You can absolutely find some nice wines to fit your budget! I second all of the places suggested by Stardust. 750ml doesn't usually have more than one or two PGs to taste, but as Stardust mentioned, they often have great bargains on nice wines that will complement any meal (or give as a gift). The owner there will also offer alternatives to PG that you may not have considered. Also, believe it or not, you can also find some nice, often interesting pinot grigios at Cost Plus World Market or even at Trader Joe's. (I'd try Cost Plus first)
