I went here about a month ago with a friend as a walk-in. Not my usual place, which was packed, but a nearby place that I decided to check out. Aesthetically, it was nothing spectacular -- it lacked the usual warm colors, music, and other sensories associated with self-pampering. It also took a long time -- they were short staffed and my friend was done with hers just as I was starting mine, so she had to wait. The place also needs to have better ventilation; you could smell the manicure chemicals. The staff, however, was extremely pleasant, and nearly three weeks later, my pedicure looks incredibly clean and near-new. The polish quality is very good, with hardly any chipping or fading. I am curious about their San Carlos location (30% off for new clients). If you don't mind bypassing the usual pamperfest, this is a decent location with decent prices (my ped was $25.00 and I got a great leg massage, too).
Cute pet shop in downtown San Mateo. The clothes and collars are very nice.
If you are in need of electronic components, Jameco is the place to be. The catalog and website are great ways to find what you need. What I like the best is that you can pick up the stuff at their location down on Shoreway Road.
A great place for Italian food. One of my wife's favorites, on the corner of Ralston Ave and 6th St. Anthony, the owner is a pleasure. Don't miss it.
A Great Tradition - good old cafe, next to the old Villa Hotel, the same owners of the Sky Kitchen in San Carlos, a pleasure, great family ownership.
Great Buffet. You cannot beat it for the quality of food and price. I have had lunch there many times and I am never disappointed. Get there early for lunch or you will have to wait in line for a table.
I just finished a great lunch at Acqua Pazza down on the corner of Ellsworth and 3rd Ave. Great location, good food, we really enjoyed it. Enzo, the owner is a delightful person. A great place to meet for a business lunch or casual. I ran into another associate there, the place was hopping. Ray
Town is a little above average. Nothing spectacular, but certainly not a run-of-the mill establishment. The food is tasty and filling, but expensive. This would be a good place for an appetizer and maybe a cocktail (nice wine list, too), but if you're looking for a decent meal that won't obliterate your wallet, consider Laurel Street hopping and check out Refuge for an indulgent, fresh burger or sandwich.
A terrific "find", right in the middle of all that's happening down town. Very convenient, right across the street from the theaters. A real friendly proprietor who does excellent work and is happy to help you.
Found them on Smalltown/San Mateo. Very good equipment selection. Good brands. Excellent staff, tight operation - clean and well organized shop - makes you feel confident in their advice.
Very impressed with the customer service. Was helped by Leda on what turned out to be a pretty complex problem; she didn't give up and kept at it until it got figured out. Great attitude! All the staff were quite helpful.
I love this place. Great BBQ, mac and cheese, all the southern cooking favorites like chicken fried streak and fried chicken and of course fresh hot bisquits brought to your table with honey and butter. I'm getting hungry just thinking about. If you've yet to try this place you're missing out. Lil' Biscuit House is southern home cooking at it's very best. Bring a big appetite.
This place is a cut above the Thai food I've found in Burlingame and San Mateo. Good selection of dishes that come out nicely presented and full of flavor. They have a number of lunch specials that are a great value and a nice little bar connected to the restaurant that's perfect for happy hour after work.
They used to be over on 25th but recently moved downtown. Now I can skip the drive and conveniently walk and get a filling meal for a good price. I have my favorites (#9 & #26) and appreciate this is a no hassle process. Order by number, tell them what you want or don't want on it and you get generous portions and a filling lunch. Better than the fast food alternatives but just as quick. Nice crew here to help you out.od alternatives but just as quick. Nice friendly crew here too.
Somebody had told me about a casual place with picnic tables and outdoor dining named "Marvin" in Belmont, but didn't know the full name and address. I found it on Smalltown and have been there with friends from work and it's pretty fun. Very good menu - you can get salads as well as the usual grilled items. I'm a hotdog fanatic, we like the atmosphere, and I'm glad to have found it! Plus, you need to see their beer-wall! Billy Beer?? You must be kidding!!!
Astaria has always managed to come through to meet my expectations and is one of the reliable places I know I can take friends and have a pleasant time and enjoy great food. The menu is updated fairly frequently so there's always an opportunity to try something new, even though I often stick with my old favorites. Great staff, atmosphere and dining experience. It keeps me coming back. Make sure to leave room for dessert.
My 3 year old has been watching "So You Think You Can Dance" and wanted to take dance lessons. A friend recommended Kirkpatrick's and we had a good first experience. The instructor was incredibly patient with the kids. She made it fun and there was no sense of pressure to perform. The other parents and I attended her class's recital and it was adorable. So, my review is based on just one 4 week summer camp session, but so far so good. I guess the best recommendation I can make is that she will definitely continue to take classes there.
I try to eat healthy but often find that in rushing around each day I default to fast food which is my downfall. Here at Redbrick I'm able to pop in and get a quick salad with dressing on the side for a healthy and quick lunch on my workday. And when I give in and decide to get a pizza I can get a small pizza with veggies. Here the crust is thin and crispy and they don't pile on too much cheese or sauce so it's a lighter version and a delicious pizza. I'm so glad they opened one near me in Millbrae.
Great Mediterranean! Tried this place for the first time today. They have some nice outdoor seating right across from the fountain on Laurel Street Park. I had the spinach and chicken wrap with a side salad – great flavor! I requested some additional hot sauce, 'cuz I like it like that, and they brought it out in a cute hollowed out lemon half. A plus for the extra effort! I'm giving them four and a half stars only because I can't see giving five stars after only trying one dish. I'm actually surprised that I'm the first one to review this place here. Anyone?
If you are like me and have a weakness for pie then Heidi's should be on your speed dial. I have to say that the food is good, but the pies are as if some sort of magical being placed them into an oven and baked small miracles into each and every pie... Follow the bear!!!
Ok, I am not normally one for Indian food but... Roti is the best I love the food here I have been 6 times and love the food. Its not that the food alone is a reason to come here the ambiance is wonderful, very tasteful and an inviting environment to enjoy the fabulous food that is before you… Don’t forget to "follow the Bear!"
I have to say that I was cautious when another Italian restaurant opened in downtown San Mateo, but I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. the food is wonderful, the prices are more than fair and the staff is really Italian, go figure... I am looking forward to going back!!!
We thought it was time for a new roof and called several roofers out to give us estimates. Ryan from Saber Roofing did the best job of all and let us know that some minimal repairs would take us through another few years. He walked the entire roof, took photos and then emailed us the photos to justify the need for the repairs. It was much easier to understand what was happening up there when we could see it. We scheduled an appoinment over email and there was none of the back and forth phone calling that can happen when you're trying to schedule work. A great experience.
Kingfish is right across the street from our office so I eat there often. Frankly, in the past I've been a little disappointed in the quality of food and service. But my family and I had dinner at Kingfish tonight and I feel compelled to write that they've really turned things around. The food was excellent. Fresh, hot and presented well. The service was remarkable. For example, our 3 year old daughter accidentally fell out of her chair and "went boom". Immediately the bus person rushed over to help her. When she started to cry, another waiter came over and gave her a necklace of Mardi Gras beads which really cheered her up. Then our waiter came over and gave her an ice cream sundae. It was as if the whole thing was choreographed. There was also a fun buzz going on because the restaurant was full and active and everyone seemed to be having a good time. If you haven't been to Kingfish lately, rush over and give the latest version a try.
I love Peter's work. I saw a show of his work in SF a couple of years ago and fell in love with it. It is unique, playful, profound - the whole gamut. I can't wait to see what he has been up to during the last few years.
We have the best time here. Last weekend we went with our three-year old daughter, my 80 year old mother and my husband. We all chose our favorite piece (so many to choose from) and fun was had by all. Both my mom and daughter asked when we could go back again. The staff is friendly, the selection of paintable objects is eclectic and the place is very clean. We will definitely being going back here.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to Kristina for doing such a GREAT job on my hair. She cut it just the way I wanted it to be!!! I have been going to her for the past couple of years now and she is always amazing. Thanks again, Christina
I've had various sports related injuries dating back to 1986. The injuries include both knees (total 3 surgeries and 4 injuries), both shoulders, neck, broken hip, torn achilles and compressed low back disk. I've been to physical therapy with at least 5 different PT places, including two others here on the peninsula. I'm just concluding my third round with Apex. I think I was one of their very first clients when Dave first started out on his own (I'd met Dave at his previous employer and really liked him so when I got injured a year later I looked him up and found out where he'd gone). Apex has since grown into a much bigger, better equiped facility and even added another location. But the personal attention hasn't changed at all. My rehabs with Apex now include therapy following Achilles Tendon Rupture (snowboarding), Broken Hip (motorcycle) and now a pinched nerve in my neck (unknown origin). The facility is always clean, has a great selection of equipment, the people are upbeat and encouraging, and they make it enjoyable to go to therapy. I have also sent 3 friends/acquaintances to Apex when they were hurt. All have reported back that they had similarly excellent experiences. I suspect I'll end up back at Apex again at some point in the future, and I'm glad to see them having the success to ensure they'll be there when I need them. If you are hurt, go see the pros at Apex. Kim, John, Dave, Tony and Robyn will take great care of you.
Really enjoyed the bruschetta and carpacio. Of course the wine selection is awesome to enjoy while listening to light jazz.
I have a 2001 Acura MDX with over 180K on it. I've owned it since it was new. During the warrantee period I had it serviced at Serramonte where I bought it - I strongly recommend against using them unless its a dealer-only warrantee issue. After those first couple years, I discovered Honda Hospital and have been a happy customer ever since. The first time they serviced my MDX they discovered that my cabin air filter had NEVER been changed - yet I'm pretty sure Acura of Serramonte charged me for that service at least once. (It is obvious if that filter's ever been changed because you need to cut off a piece of plastic to get it out). Honda Hospital is very courteous. The place is clean. The people (Dave, Robert, Chris, etc.) are polite, nice and thorough. Even the mechanics, who you'd never see at most shops, are articulate, tidy and helpful. They go out of their way to help you resolve those little nagging issues (noises, rattles, etc.) that other shops will just ignore if they can't reproduce them within about 30 seconds. I doubt that Honda Hospital's prices are the cheapest. But the one or two times I've shopped around when I had more major services to do (e.g. timing belt, spark plugs, hose replacements), their prices were just slightly higher than the cheap options. Knowing that the work will be done thoroughly, done right and backed up is worth more than a few dollars savings. One more thing that sets HH apart. When I've had questions or issues that were unique or challenging, they've been very helpful in researching the problems and helping me with the solutions (even when it wasn't something they were going to make money off of). This has happened to me a couple of times since I have the earliest model MDX and I drive more miles than most people (try finding another MDX with more than 180K after 7 years).
Before DoodyCalls I worked for a large company which had a lot of vistors from Chicago. Belive me they know pubs. They loved the place. The fish tocos and St James Gate burgur (Guinness burgur) were and are a big hit. Thumbs up!
I agree that Cabinet World is the BEST. We have had our kitchen & family room done by them and also have had all doors throughout the house replaced. Could not have asked for better workmanship. We can highly recommend Cabinet World.
We purchased cabinets from Cabinet World about six months ago. The service was fantastic, Dave helped with our design and had excellent follow-thru. I would highly recommend Cabinet World to everyone. We've been to a few other cabinet showrooms, and we've been told by our contractor that Cabinet World is cheaper than most others.
Wide selection - have been 3 times, and each time I try something new. Very tasty and you can really personalize the dishes with a terrific array of toppings, sauces and salsas. I'm definitely going to be a regular!
I love this salon!!! A warm and inviting atmosphere, talented and fun stylists, professional and friendly front desk... simply perfection! I love my color and cut every single time. It just doesn't get any better than this.
I saw the work up at 750ml the other night while enjoying a glass of wine and couldn't help but imagine how great they'd look hanging on my living room wall. It's a really cool collection of art unlike most I've seen. Maybe I can manage to acquire one for my very own. They actually seem reasonably priced. Then, if I could only get a self serve wine car installed in my living room, I'd have no need to ever leave home. :-)
This is a great place to meet up with friends after your work day ends or before or after dinner plans. They also do a great job of highlighting local artists by hanging their artwork on the walls and offering it for sale. There's currently (July - Sept) a great show of artwork that consists of sculptural panels combining found objects with carved and painted elements. The result is a fresh and contemporary collection of artwork to ponder and enjoy. Do yourself a favor and check it out.
750ml showcases wonderful collections from local artists, and Peter Andrea (featured this quarter) is as interesting as his art with a down-to-earth persona to boot. You will absolutely enjoy talking with Peter over a seemingly endless array of wonderful varietals, all at your fingertips. Do yourself a favor this Thursday, and pop into 750ml for an engaging evening of art, people, and wine!
I've had lunch there a few times and love the place. They did a great job on the decor. It has a refreshingly airy feel with plenty of space between tables. So far, my fav lunch dish is the grilled salmon salad, and the calamari is a must! I look forward to trying out more traditional Napolitano fare. My questions for the three brothers who opened Acqua Pazza Bravo ragazzi, ma che voule dire il nome "crazy water"?
I just received a wonderful massage. It was my first theraputic massage; as opposed to just being pampered. Sophia Barnes,CMT listened carefully to my list of aches and pains and addressed my particular needs during the session. I felt so much better afterwards. Sofia's manner is a nice balance between professional and caring. She was recommended to me by the owner of my gym. The first thing I did after the massage was to book another one with Sophia for next month.
I think the concept is good but, as others have noted, there are some problems in implementation. The place is too small and not easy to navigate/ reach things with kids. And I can't get over the name being just plain silly.
Don't live here if you value your sanity. The management doesn't enforce the lease, which leads to really unbelievable amounts of noise, even though there's a clause that prohibits it. Dogs bark all day, every day, for hours at a time, loudly enough to be heard in the next building over! Yet management does nothing, despite repeated requests and visits. Expect that you'll never be able to hear yourself think, and your neighbors' noise will interrupt conversation in every room of your apartment. Go ahead, try to relax, I dare you. This is the noisiest place I've ever lived in, and also the most expensive. The manager has failed repeatedly to do anything about other tenants violating the noise clause of the lease. Rent goes up and up, while concern for the continued business of long-term tenants like us goes down and down. Other people park in our assigned parking and don't get towed. After 2 years I'm glad I'm moving out of this hellhole!
This place has really taken off since the new owner Jamie took over in mid-2007. This place has gone from mostly jeans and basic items to some really great well known designers and some great new designers. Jamie seem to find the right things. She even told me that she supports local designers a well and sells them. (handbags, jewlery, etc) Bottom line... if you havent found this place yet or havent been in awhile you really need to get in there. it much more laid back then burligame ave and Jamie and the staff is not pushy at all!!!
Joy, thank you for assisting me in overcoming my studying block. Since working with you I have been able study, retain and pass my Cisco certification exams. I wish you all the best. Richard
We took Henry to the Paw Salon and have nothing but wonderful things to say. My boyfriend was extremely specific about the length that we would like on your 9 year old Yorkie Henry. The paw salon gave Henry the perfect haircut! My boyfriend could not stop talking about how great a job they did for weeks! Henry was also pretty pleased, he strutted through the neighborhood with his head held high. :) He looked great, his fur felt great, and he sure looked like he felt great. I highly recommend the Paw Salon.
This is a really fun shop! Fresh, tasty frozen yogurt is a fabulous post-workout or anytime snack, and you can choose from the buffet of toppings inclusive of cookie and candy bar chunks, traditional sundae toppings, or fresh fruit like mandarin oranges, mango, and kiwi. The downside is that the cozy space gets somewhat cramped (not much room for strollers). Also, as it is on the pricey side (cost per weight), I wouldn't recommend it as a daily treat, but a once-a-week visit is something really to look forwad to. I hope they consider opening a little earlier in the day, as this would be a terrific choice for a healthy breakfast on-the-go.
I can't even begin to tell you how great my ring turned out. I found this store,on my computer, when searching for jewelers in San Mateo. I am new to this area and didn't have a jeweler. So, I gave this place a shot. I checked out their website and liked what it said. My first impression was, " Wow, This guy knows his stuff." There were pictures all over the store of things he had designed and made for lots of other people. I was so impressed by his knowledge & talent. He said he is a third generation jeweler. I can believe it. There was also a girl designer there. She makes jewelry with pearls and beads. The store was filled with jewelry Ed & Karen have made. The two of them helped me design a ring. They even recycled my old jewelry. I used some of the diamonds out of an old wedding band and pendent my Ex had given to me. Then I picked a stone they had in the showcase for the center. I have never been so happy. I am telling everyone to go to Galati Jewelers. Thank you. I wouldn't go any where else.
Recently I purched the lighting for my house from Niko Lighting not only were there products unique with great quality, but the owner Edman was very helpfull in consulting us with choosing the proper light indoor and outdoor.
I have heard from the bartender that they were planning on doing country nite at the bar.. They wanted to do it on thursday nites. Country music is being played, and this thursday they will have some promotion girls in to help start the night... A good time to go would be 8 30 or so when they will be there in their cowgirl gear.. And if you feel the need to dance all they have to do is move the tables and you can pull off the best line dance. Besides ,where else can you go to hear country music and stuff around the area... You have to go all the way to fremont to the saddle rack... Save gas stay local.
Annie is the best in town. She goes above and beyond the nomal strip mall cleaners. Great service, price and attitude.
