The have walked over to our shop to help us out a few times now. They are knowledgeable, great guys, friendly, and get things done fast!! I'm glad we are neighbors with these guys!!!
They're fast, they're efficient, they're all great guys. I've only set foot in the shop a couple time to get keys copied, but I love having these guys around. It seems like just a little key shop (note: key-shaped door and cool vintage decor), but they're always moving big stuff around early morning. On days when I get to work early, I see them hauling and moving big, and I mean biiig safes and vaults around. Reminds me of all those grand heist movies where they have pros who know how to break into safes. I don't know if they do that here, but I appreciate having them in town. A very old and historical shop.
These folks are the best. Not only do they know their stuff [current locks, historical info], but they are so kind and helpful. They took an old lock off my bike for free. So nice everytime I go in there. A San Mateo gem.
I came in here to have motorcycle keys cut. The Honda's have a specialty key that's extremely long compared to others. Other shops were going to charge me way more than what they charged me. So instead of getting one key made, I had them make me a second one. I'm not sure what their prices for other services are in comparison. But saved me a few bucks.
I moved to San Mateo in 1997 and luckily I found San Mateo Lock Works the first time I needed this kind of work done. They replaced all the locks on my house, got me into my house when I locked myself out, and they've done lots of little jobs since. I also use them for work around my office. They show up on time, work quickly, and don't charge a proverbial arm and a leg. And they have some really cool old stuff in their shop.
I brought in 2 keys that I needed copied. The salesman copied both keys for me in under a minute. The keys worked perfectly and I am definitely coming back the next time I lose a set of keys.
I somehow get stuck with things that I have to special order. In this case, I needed an extended doorknob internal part. I went to Home Depot, OSH, none of them had it. So I decided to stop in at over here at San Mateo Lock Works, they immediately knew what I needed and had the part available. It's great that I didn't have to keep going around looking for this thing. Thanks, SMLW.
These guys are the best in the business. They have their pulse on the industry and are very innovative and customer service oriented. I highly recommend them for any and all needs.
I've been using these guys for years!!! Family run and operated. Steve & Gary are great! They always take good care of us, no matter how big or small the task. A great selection of hardware and they really know their stuff.
One of my ridiculously strong co-workers broke our side door (handle), so I called on the local locksmith to come take a look at it. Jorge was very responsive and nice, giving me accurate times on the ordering of parts. He even found a cheaper and more efficient alternative to replace the handle, which I really appreciated. Good response time, great service, and a very interesting shop! The store is packed with antique locks and keys, and they have very cute (well-branded) company vans rolling around town all the time. I highly recommend them for any work big or small, from key copying to door fixin'!
If you're locked out or just need a spare set of house keys, step inside S.M. Lock Work's keyhole-shaped entryway and meet the nice, professional, and very saavy staff. I've had several keys cut here. I wish they could also do the new fangled auto keys and replace the battery in my husband's Prius key, but I guess auto dealers need to give us with a reason to see them, too. That's another story... Definitely give S. M. Lock Works a try if you lock ourself out or find ourself in need of new locks. They are a full service locksmith and offer emergency services as well.
