I always wanted to use this line: "I am always happiest when I am down in the dumps". I remember this place when I was a kid and it was not a "land fill" but a DUMP. So I think about what is under that giant mound of dirt...my past. It is too bad it took so long (20 years?) between closing the dump and opening the park. It too a lot of work to cap off the dump safely. It was an extraordinary transformation though. One of my favorite places to visit. I like the fact that the wetlands were restored. I found out that the nice green plants in the Bay are an invasive non-native species that is being eradicated.
Ryder Park is a great destination for a hot day. The playground has a kids’ “water feature” that consists of fountains that shoot up from a padded play area. It can get crowded on a hot day, but it’s great fun. The playground has new and unique equipment and a fun sandbox, as well. There are picnic tables and bathrooms located right next to the water area. My only complaint is the small parking lot – although there is overflow parking over the pedestrian bridge.
For a loooong time, this place was just dirt. Then the city finally took on this project and I'm impressed. The construction somewhat mimics the new library, with the wood slats. Anyways, the dog park is HUGE, it must have been a quarter mile long for your pooch to run around in. They also have a bunch of hydrants placed inside for decoration, or for your dog's toilet. They have two sections for Big dogs and small dogs.
And unlike most dog parks, it doesn't smell like a toilet out here. The wide open space helps a lot.
Right above the dog park is a very nice vista view of the bay and the San Mateo bridge. The point also connects a bike path to coyote point. So if you like biking, you have to ride the Coyote Point trail.
Ryder park is also great for kids, their new playground is quite nice and the floor on the jungle jims and othe apparatus has a soft recycled rubber and it's bouncy. Which is much better than what I had growing up, we had bark to cushion our fall. The bark ended up giving you lots of little scrapes and cuts. With this new rubber floor, not only is it environmentally friendly, but your kid's fall is cushioned.
The best dog park by far! You can always count on a few dogs being there any time of the day. The people are very friendly and always willing to offer advice. My dog loves it!
We love this park! The equiptment is appropriate for both toddlers and school aged children, with some unusual things you don't see at every playground. The sandbox has a water fountain in the middle, providing children with much needed mud for creating their masterpieces! There are always sand toys left behind, so don't worry if you forgot yours! We count down the days until the water park opens in the late spring!
Nice views, Easy parking and friendly pets and their owners!!!! This is one of the best dog parks I've been to and I've met some really nice, considerate owners!!!
This park is beautiful because it sits right on the bay. I love the foliage and the curvy architecture of the bridge. On my first visit, I saw a cute heron feeding in the creek. Also, people bring nice dogs to exercise with.
