I have been buying my coffee here since they first opened. Great coffee, great service, always friendly and just a beautiful way to start my workday. Always nice to patrionize the independents and not the Big Box guys around the corner and accross the street!
There are a lot of terrific coffee shops in downtown San Mateo, and I'm sure throughout the city as well. But I know the downtown area best, and I'm challenged to find one friendlier than 3 Bees Coffee. I pop in about once a week (not much of a drinker, obviously) but every time I go in, I feel welcomed as a regular, anyway. The staff is friendly, efficient, and it's just a cute little place to hang out, check email, or check out some cool local art or photography. It's a really basic establishment that lets its staff shine through.
Not only is Three Bees the best place to go for great coffee, a short lunch, an evening cup of tea, or a delectable morning pastry, it also happens to be one of the few independent coffee shops in San Mateo. The shop is filled with wonderful art, and the environment is exactly how a cafe environment should be. All I can say is any shop that sells its-its and wonderful coffee and tea is the place for me!
Three Bees is the best independent alternative to the soul sucking coffee establishments in San Mateo. I usually stop by for coffee or tea in the afternoons and evenings, and they are also a great alternative to subway for smaller organic sandwiches. The staff are easy to talk to and extremely prompt.
I don't drink coffee, but one day I popped into 3 Bees and asked them if they had any food that wasn't sweet and I was introduced to their home made wraps. I love the chicken ones - 2 for $4. What a great place. I'm thinking of taking up coffee...
Good coffee, good prices, good choices. Who needs the chain coffee shops when we've got 3 Bees. They even sell organic and vegan snacks.
This place is great...fresh, hot coffee, comfortable environment. Bring your laptop for free Wi-Fi, or check email for $8/hour computer use. Fun little stools at the window sets the stage for perfect people watching, and the staff is always warm and welcoming. A nice alternative to the loud, oft-crowded chain "cafes".
Almost 2 years ago, while walking around downtown San Mateo I accidentally ran into 3 Bees Coffee. What a great accident it was although according to my friend, “There are no accidents in life, things are meant to be!” This coffee house makes the best decaf, soy mocha and I agree with the girl on the Smalltown video that, “they add more chocolate than normal people!” Whenever I walk in, I am always greeted with a smile and while I wait for my drink I look over the tempting assortment of desserts and snacks. The environment inside 3 Bees is comfortable for a small get together with friends or for a place to work on your laptop when you want to get away from the office or your home. There’s usually some mellow music playing in the background and the walls are tastefully decorated with art that changes from time to time. I have taken many friends there and they have all been pleasantly surprised. It’s a place that’s hard to resist if you happen to be in the neighborhood.
Some people like to go where everybody knows there name. I'm just pleased to go where everybody knows my coffee choice. This owner-operated business is a gem. The Italian coffee used is excellent. The people are warm. The art is typically interesting.

I've become absolutely hooked on their regular coffee, it's the only game in town for consistently great coffee. Very good flavor, not too bitter with one of the friendliest staffs I've ever met. Great Job! They've got my vote.
Enjoyed one of the best mochas this morning, at 3 Bees Coffee. Great ambience, good tasty scone as well. Service was quick and with a smile.
Enjoyed a filling panini with a generous helping of chicken, heated of course. Recommend it for a quick lunch.
I have coffee every morning at this place, but never tried 3 Bee's for lunch. Chicken panini with pesto, very delicious, and a good price.

For a great latte and a delicious scone you must try 3 Bee's Coffee. Their Italian coffee is the best going. Also need to mention the service. Every morning you are greeted with a big smile and a very pleasant hello from Natasha. Give them a try!!

3 Bees provides a welcome alternative to the Peet's across the street or the Starbucks down on Delaware. It's a throwback to the corner coffee shop of yesteryear before the advent of the big chains.
While I go almost everywhere for my morning latte, I am always happiest when I go to 3 Bees for its warm environment, excellent coffee, and unique selection of quick lunch food (great to take with you when you go). The owner is friendly and very involved in the local community, which is nice to know.
3 Bees is a quiet little cafe with charm, polite service, and not to mention great drinks! It beats out the big cafes by a mile. It's hard to find that rare token cafe, so I feel very lucky to work so nearby this great little place. Pay 3 Bees a visit and see for yourself!
A real coffee shop where the employees know your name - and you can hang out as long as you want. Plus, there's cool, new art every month.
The service is excellent, coffee delicious, and prices a bit lower than the coffee chains. Also, the atmosphere is like a neighborhood coffee shop, where the owner remembers what regular customers order. I highly recommend it!
Unlike Peet's across the street, this is a real coffee shop, not a coffee production pipeline. It has nicer and more compentent staff and better atmosphere.
It's nice to have other options from the ole' Starbucks. I find really nice surprise coffees at 3 Bees.
Great coffee and good karma. This place is really a good place to hang out, and can double as a home office.
I love getting my morning latte here, as well as my afternoon double espresso. The baristas here know my drinks, and they're always friendly but never overbearing. They greet you like an old friend even if you're not. I appreciate how they showcase local artists on their walls. The morning pastries are yum as well. A great way to start any day downtown!
3 Bees has a much more cozy atmosphere than the chains. The service is great. The regular barrista has a good sense of humor. This morning I tried to trip her up by requesting a triple half decaf ponte vechio with a twist of lime, but she calmly made my usual double cappuccino.
The artwork they display is usually very good - although I have to admit that I'm not too crazy about the current painter, and I'm looking forward to the next artist.

I'd take 3 Bees over chain coffee shops any day. The ambiance is cozy and friendly, and you never feel rushed. The coffee is really made with care, nice frothy milk in lattes, and never coffee with that burnt flavor. A great place to spend a hour or so doing work or chatting with a friend, or for grabbing a cup to go. Love it!
I love this cafe! I have been going here since I moved to San Mateo a few years ago. The staff is always warm & inviting & they know how to make a good coffee drink... especially the mochas! I own my own business & truly appreciate quality customer service. Their is something special about the ma & pa shops that offer a funky & cozy environment vs. the copororations. Highly recommended!
3B's is a great, small, european style coffee shop. Why do to a chain when when you can settle into this cozy coffee shop with owner Rafat. Also, has wireless access.

I like 3 Bees because they dare to be different.
Instead of the vast emptiness of post-modern minimalist decor, they fill their store with lots of goodies and love.
They also have the friendliest baristas in town. Great selection of treats, including ice creams. There's a certain ambiance and buzz that I get from walking into the store...a warm fuzzy.
C'mon in and get a real coffee drink, one made to be savored and enjoyed. Rather than churn out a crowd, 3 Bees invites you to stay with a great atmosphere, friendly staff, filling foodstuffs, wifi, and lattes capped with a smile--literally. There's nothing that will brighten your day than a happy face etched in foam.
I've become a regular customer of 3 Bees. I've only had their espresso drinks but they make 'em pretty good. Not too bitter, not too sweet.
An iced nonfat latte is great for an afternoon drink. Better than going to the chains ... Plus they've got free Wi-Fi!!
