I like this theater because it is centrally located downtown, with several resturants around with a nice parking garage right next to it.
The surrounding area is not the best.
Its nice to have something north of redwood city.
This theatre is horrible. Small lobby area means no where to relax if you get to the movie early. If it's a popular movie, all the lines go outside, so if it's raining, bring a raincoat and be prepared to stand in the rain. The hallways to the theatres are narrow and the theaters aren't well marked. Parking is horrible. Ticket lines need improvement to. The few times I've been to this theatre there's only 2 ticket windows open while 30 to 35 people stand in line, no joke, the line went to B street. If you want to see a movie, go somewhere else or wait for it to come out on DVD.
Great selection of movies, snacks and seats.Wish the crowd wasnt so 'rough' sometimes.
As an FYI...snacks are expensive at any movie theatre as thats where the movie theatres make their money. Did you know when a new movie comes out, the theatres have to give as much as 90% of the take the first week to the studio? It decreases weekly afterthat, however sometimes it's at least 6 weeks before they actually cover their expenses.
Yes, stuff's expensive, but concessions are expensive anywhere. The seats are comfy, the staff's always polite at least, if not always the most ecstatic, and the building's always clean.
Great place to catch a movie, always has great selection of new releases, great snack bar, many varieties of bulk candy to choose from, convenient parking, easy access.
It is a wonderful place for movie cuz they always have the newest releases and the theaters are clean and well kept with great sound systems. Conveniently there are many great restaurants nearby along with some of my favorite sushi restaurants. I also can easily walk to coffee at Starbucks after the show.
Negatives: can be crowded, the snacks are too expensive, and movies are sold out on popular nights.
Pros: what choice do you have? Redwood city is a far drive, and the Hyatt Burlingame theaters are worse. The San Mateo theaters have a good mainstream selection and lots of restaurants nearby. Just get some snacks beforehand.
Although a bit narrow and crowded, this movie theatre is a favorite. It is right next to the train station and a few bus stops, and surrounded by parking lots, giving it very easy access. The location is perfect, and the theatre is nothing but great quality.
My family & I have had several bad experiences at this theatre. Just this past weekend I had a free movie coupon and after presenting it and paying for my son & husband's tickets I realized I was still charged $7.50 for my ticket! The guy working there was completely clueless & had to go find help (because no one else was around to assist). I finally got my money back. Other experiences are that I cannot believe they ONLY accept cash for concessions...ridiculous! And, the concession area is self-serve. If I'm paying that much for snacks, they better darn well be served to me! Overall, the prices for tickets as well as snacks are extremely overpriced for the service you receive. The only good thing is... the seats are comfortable & the theatres are set up nicely.
This is a great place to see a movie - comfortable chairs, nice size theatres, and always playing the most current films.
Basically, if you're looking to a see flick A.S.A.P., you might want to settle for this theater. If you have the money for extra gas, go somewhere else. The parking for the area is terrible, and the people who work are horrible at what they were employeed to do.
If you can, go somewhere else.
This is one of the better movie thearters that I have been to in a really long time. The building is really good and clean looking. The workers are nice people. If i had to say something bad about it I would say that it is not in the most obvious place to see.
Well, movies are the movies, you can still expect to pay $10 a ticket to get it, and more for food/candy/drinks if you want them. However this Movie Theater is very well taken care of, very nice inside and out. Chairs are big and comfy. Has a game room. Near Cal-Train and great food places in downtown San Mateo.
i love going to the movies and this is a big theater with great seats and food! there is a hot dog place right in from of it and a cold stones with a candy store right behind it!
Everyone likes movies. It is a fantastic place for moveis. You can find the newest moves in the United States. It is a good place to hang out with friends and lovers.
The seats in this movie theater are great. They are very relaxing and they go higher up as you go farther back. It allows you to see over the person in front of you. It has dryers ice cream and an arcade. It is a great place to go see a movie.
i wuld say the best place for watching movies i likegoing there with friend i prsonally prefer it because it has comfortable seats larger screen, and the best popcorn.
Not especially great. It is pretty average for a movie theatre. It features all the newest major films and keeps them around reasonably long. Can get packed sometimes and preordering tickets is always a good idea.
ok
i had a bad experience over there the lady at the cashier was really rude
It's somewhat small, but in a great accessable area! They have a cute cafe area but their arcade is very lacking.
Nice, clean theaters. Up to date and very convenient with easy parking across the street and lot's of places to eat nearby.
I am so glad that this theatre was built. Very family friendly and the theatre is right in the middle of various restaraunts and coffee shops. Very clean and has a close to home feel.
great movie place, great popcorn, and the theater is very clean
I love that we have a movie theater downtown. I've seen some movies here and the theater is clean and very comfortable. They always have a good selection of movies too!
This is a great theater to see all the new release movies, but it can get crowded at times. We went a opening night blockbuster movie and were almost crowded out by people who werent supposed to be there, but the employees were great in weeding out the people and letting everyone who paid get a seat. It was really nice to see.
I have been to many theatres around the country and this is by far one of my favorites. The lines are never too long, the food options are good, and the seats are very comfortable. The people who work there are very nice as well, they have always helped us if we had any problems. I am so glad San Mateo has such a nice theatre available in such a great location.
One and i think only one theater complex in sanmateo downtown. This is a great place to go for a movie during the day, especially for new releases. You won't find the so much crowd compared with other theaters. The location is perfect with all the neighboring restaurants. The most important thing is that there is lot of parking available at the city parking and is only 50 cents for 2 hours. The theater is also really clean. I like it a lot.
Just a couple of other suggestions:
If you park at the surface lot at Fifth and Railroad which is known as the old Kinko's lot or across the street where the worker resource center is, it's one block away from the theatre and it's free with no time limits. It can be tough to find a space during mid-day as that is where Downtown employees are encouraged to park but at night and on the weekends there is usually lots of space.
Also remember that parking is free everywhere downtown after 6:00 PM and on Sundays.
I like this movie theater. Downtown San Mateo's state of the art movie theater. However, parking is an issue and you need to pay for parking in the garage which adds to the cost of going out to see a movie.
This newly rennovated theater is a great place to go on a date especially. The location is perfect with all the neighboring restaurants, and the gorgeous brick walkway up to the ticket booths are so "metropolitan" almost like the city coming to you. I reccomend parking in the caltrain parking lot and saving on parking meter fees. what would normally cost you $2.00 for 2 hours is only $.25. Just a tip from me :)
I hope they can show more interesting films (such as independent films) besides Hollywood blockbusters.
Great movie theatre to hang out with family & friends
great location, clean facility, pop corn always fresh, setting always available!
I love the movies. Century Park 12 is always updated with the newest shows. As soon as you walk in you are graced with the wonderful smell of buttered popcorn! Yum! A great place for adults and children. Each theatre has very comfortable cascading seats to insure everyone can see the show. The only discretion i have is that they only accept cash which can be a hassle. Otherwise its a great place to go!
WOW -
What to say. This is a great place to come and see a movie and eat in downtown San Mateo.
I really recommend you come before 6:00 when it is much cheaper.
the downtown san mateo theatre has the best seating out of any other theatre
I like this place. The seats are comfortable and the theatres are well kept. The only down side is the small lobby and the congested area just outside of the theatre. This courtyard can get quite busy and crowded on a Saturday night.
although the theater is comfy and I liked the decorations, the food is too expensive.
Every time I see a movie here the theater is so small I ask myself, why didn't I wait for it on Netflix and watch it at home. My TV screen is nearly as big. I think there is at least one large theater but I've never been in it. The lines to get in are very long on the weekends.
Century San Mateo is always the first place I scope out when I'm hoping to catch a movie. It's as clean as a movie theater can be, hosts ample parking, and surrounds itself with the best San Mateo has to offer.
Credit Card Acceptance and Student Discounts stop the theater from receiving a 5 star rating.
I am most supremely upset when I go to a place that only accepts cash. Other than the cash situation, the theatre is A-OK.
This place is conveniently located with tons of restaurants around it. The lobby is kind of small. Great for a movie-dinner night.
