Really enjoyed the bruschetta and carpacio. Of course the wine selection is awesome to enjoy while listening to light jazz.
The weather has been so breathtakingly beautiful that on a recent lunch outing I was inspired by the warm weather to find a place to dine that would allow me to bask in the midday sun. It finally dawned on me that B Street and Vine has a nice cosy patio for outdoor dining. And when I remembered that they offer great salads and bruschetta it clinched the deal. I sat in a sunny spot and enjoyed good company and a delicious salad of greens with chicken, pears, pecans, gorgonzola cheese, topped with a great tasting raspberry vinaigrette. My friend had the Shrimp Civet Salad with a generous portion of shrimp, tomatoes, cucumbers, onions, jalapenos in a cilantro lime dressing. The cool salads and the sunny patio made for perfect warm weather dining. Make sure to add this to your list for get lunch spots in downtown San Mateo.
The owner and the staff are friendly and helpful. The food is very good. You have to try the Bruchetta. Beware of how much food it is before you order your entre. They offer an list of very good wines. Every Friday and Saturday night you can listen to Jazz played by high school and college kids who are very, very good.
I really like this place, especially the food and service. I love tapas-style eating, so the assortment of bruschettas (gorgonzola and honey, mmm) with complementing wines makes for a wonderful meal. The services is fast yet not rushed, and I feel like I can take my time dining (a nice alternative to power-eating schedules). I haven't yet checked out the music so I'm looking forward to that! The only drawback, I feel, about B Street & Vine is the red wine menu; they are wonderful wines but after two bad experiences I realized that they sit behind the bar and re-corked after opening. I'm not a wine snob but it's hard to truly enjoy (red) wine when its been sitting 2 - 3 days (those vacuum pumps may work for bubbly but are not red wine-friendly). You're better off buying a bottle and sharing with friends. But definitely, go eat here!!!
My girlfriend and I found this place when we were walking by and saw that they had musicians that were playing jazz music. We decided to give it a try and ended up loving the it. The food is very simple and delicious. The other thing we liked was that they had a small outside patio in the back. I would recommend this place to anyone who just wants to enjoy some wine and comfort.
I was recommended this place by my 13 year old daughter who discovered it with friends. About 5 years ago, I stumbled into a similar place in NYC in the West Village. I thought then, and do now, that creative bruschetta and good wine make for a fine dinner, snach or appetizer. Right across from the theatres, it's another great place to hang before a movie.
I had lunch at B Street and Vine recently and I can't wait to tell my friends about it. Casual atmosphere with really interesting art on the walls. A short but complete menu of panini and salads, with a variety of choices designed to go well with wine. I couldn't drink wine at lunch, but the food was great even without the wine. I had the bruschetta with a variety of very interesting toppings. (Gorgonzola with honey, white bean with tomatoes, brie with apples and mozzarella and basil.) All delicious. And I could only finish about half. Next time I'll bring a friend and share. I read that they have live music, but I haven't been around at the right time yet.
Just enjoyed a delicious meal and wine there and was really impressed. Great crowd and attentive owners and staff.
We found the wine selection to be very extensive and the knowlege of the staff to be very helpful in recommending a good label for our dinner menu.
First time in the spot last night, very nice they had some young kids playing a little music very laid back- I will defiantly go back. Great atmosphere. I can see my lady really digging this spot.
Had a delicious lunch. Their bruschetta is outstanding. A must try is the ricotta with dates and pistachios. Also can have a glass of wine for $5.00. Very good service too.
I work near the new B Street & Vine Wine Bar / Cafe. I've been putting off trying it because I don't drink wine. But I finally got around to having lunch there today, and I'm really happy to have another nice dining alternative in downtown San Mateo. The atmosphere is casual and pleasant, with outside seating in the back. I loved the artwork on the walls; surprisingly fun and sophisticated paintings for San Mateo. The menu items are simple, Italian-influenced and limited, but it all looked very fresh and tasty: appetizers, panini, salads, a variety of bruschetta and desserts. As you’d expect, the menu is focused on foods that go well with wine. I had the bruschetta and it was really, really tasty. And unusual, because there were many different types and I got to choose four different ones. I had tomato and mozzarella, gorgonzola and honey, apple and brie, and artichoke with sun dried tomatoes. I could only finish about half and took the rest with me. I think a great meal would be to split the bruschetta plate with a friend and have a glass of wine. Maybe for dinner add a small salad. On the way out I noticed they have a live jazz band in the evenings. I say check it out soon and support a new local restaurant in downtown that is doing things a little differently and raising the bar a bit.
Can they get any nicer at B Street & Vine? The food is wonderful, the service friendly, and the wine perfect. I wish I lived closer and could make it a weekly habit!
This palce is great. I just love the food. Just the kind of place that is welcome and needed in San Mateo. I am so happy to see busnesses that are unique to our town and not to be found on every block of every city in the world. I will make this place a regualr and recommend it to all my neighbors.
This is an ideal restaurant for me - wine, bruscetta, and panini. The food is great and the owners provide great helpful service. It's quickly become one of my favorite restaurants in town.
It's great to see something other than sushi and mexican come in - since San Mateo already has a solid bench of restaurants in this area. I just hit B St & Vine for lunch this week and will definitely be back. Salads are great and the menu has some good depth. Great addition to the downtown.
This is a great place! The brushetta, salads, and paninis are excellent with a fine selection of wines by the glass, all at very reasonable prices. You will not find a friendlier staff. We loved B Street & Vine and will be back.
Gathered here with two friends for lunch recently. We enjoyed carafes of wine and a nice meal. We chose the bruschetta as an appetizer and were not disappointed. In fact we had to adjust our lunch choices because the servings were so generous. And what great flavor combinations! We followed with salads. A creative selection of choices but I felt they were a little heavy with the dressing. The comfortable surrounds and the friendly staff made it all enjoyable. They're open late and conveniently located on B street near the theaters so I hope they flourish. A nice place to snack, sip and relax.
Wow. Love the brushetta. Lots of choices, and you can get 4 "flavors" for $12. Yummy! The wines by the glass had enough variety to them, and the service was very good. Way cool that the wine by the glass comes out in a small carafe. Reminds me of the places I ate in Italy. (When I go back, I'll ask for light dressing on the salads.) I highly recommend B Street & Vine. (Now, if they had sparkling wines by the glass, I'd be there every evening!)
