Bean Street Coffee has great tasting coffee, more flavors for coffee than anyone else and many yummy food choices. The atmosphere is intimate and warm and the prices are good.
I love the coffee so much that I offer it to my customers on Friday and Saturday. The people are also great, from the owner's to the staff they are always outgoing and welcoming. Just interacting with them brightens my day.
If you are in San Mateo you need to try Bean Street Coffee on B St. and 2nd-great coffee-the best I've had in years-I make a point to get there anytime I'm in the area. The owner-Ken is in there all the time and has great coffees by the pound organic and otherwise and can sure recommend anything that you are interested in.
Everyone that works here is beyond kind. And the owner after meeting him once rememberd my name! That was an added plus. They have a chai tea that I would walk through the storm for. I'm so glad that I found them!!! I can't wait to go in and ask for the usual;)
Being new here, I'm finding all sorts of goodies on this (Smalltown) website. That's how I found this great coffee place in downtown San Mateo. As I said, I just moved here, but was greeted as if I had graced their doorstep for years. At 9:00a on a Saturday, it was abuzz with conversation and the uplifting smell of fresh ground coffee and pastries. I got a hot chocolate, and wandered up and down the shop looking at the fun artwork/cartoons. Dogs and their owners alike seem to be right at home here. It was bit crowded, but the friendliest morning crew and customers I've ever seen jammed into a coffee shop. Next time I'll go earlier to tuck away into the corner nook to people (and dog) watch. Wonderful place.
So I popped into this place on my way to work today -- first time caller! -- and picked up a perfectly-made hot chocolate for the chilly walk. The service was swift, friendly, and the lingering customers appeared to really be enjoying the warm and cozy atmostphere. While waiting, I got a good laugh from the hand-drawn cartoons adorning the walls, and then literally bumped into the artist on my way out. Talk about a local hangout! This will be a regular a.m. stop. (NOTE: I found ot that dog and coffee lovers can check out Tim McGee's (?) book of farce at Barnes and Noble.)
At Bean Street you can get better coffee beans at a better price than either Starbucks or Peets. I buy a lot(!) of beans there for an office, the coffee is almost always very fresh and good quality. Prices are quite reasonable for what you get. It's family owned, the staff is very friendly, and if you can't find exactly what you want in the 20 or 30 pre-made offerings they'll happily make custom blends. About the only drawback, it is a tiny little hole in the wall - only 3 tables and a small counter in the back with about 5 seats. The snack selection is typical for a coffee shop (in other words OK but nothing great), but you're really there for the coffee anyway.
Variety is the spice of life, and coffee makes that possible. I love thinking about where to get my daily coffee, since there are so many options downtown. Despite its diminuitive size, Bean Street is a local favorite. You can tell by their loyal morning customers. Love this cute coffee joint.
If you're looking for smooth tasting and not-so-strong coffee, great selection, fair prices, smiling faces, and friendly management and staff, Bean Street is the place to go to. It's not as roomy as a Starbucks or Peets, but it's the same cozy atmosphere as 3 Bees. Highly recommended if you want to try some "exotic" coffee. Their "normal" coffees are great, too!
I think I've found the best caramel macchiato on the planet! Very smooth tasting coffee (much better than that big chain). Lots of variety for every taste bud. Prices I thought were slightly higher than expected for a local coffee shop but the quality is worth it. A little small so you won't have as much socializing as other coffee shops. But you're there to drink the coffee anyway.
The people are really nice and the coffee is always good.
Sometimes I get lazy and go to the nearest coffee shop only out of convenience, not taste. Other times, I take a nice walk and duck into this tiny little coffee shop across from the B Street parking garage. It's literally a narrow hallway, with 2.5 little tables inside. I love the window seat, although I haven't had enough free time to sit and enjoy my coffee here. The staff is friendly and quick, and I love reading the menu although I always order the same thing. Their pastries are tempting too...try them all at least once!
This is a small, cozy coffee house in downtown San Mateo. The staff are nice, and they promiise to deliver on the goods. The house coffee is rich and strong, and they have the customary baked goods. For a lovely break, bring a book and sit in their window seat.
