Astaria has always managed to come through to meet my expectations and is one of the reliable places I know I can take friends and have a pleasant time and enjoy great food. The menu is updated fairly frequently so there's always an opportunity to try something new, even though I often stick with my old favorites. Great staff, atmosphere and dining experience. It keeps me coming back. Make sure to leave room for dessert.
I really love the food at Astaria. I can always go for a good bowl of tortilla soup and theirs with homemade tortilla chips never fails to please. I usually order off the salad menu for lunch. Last time I had the beet salad with sliced tangerines and a citrus vinaigrette which was a nice change of pace. But my favorite thing of all is their dessert - the Astaria's HO-HO. Ho-Ho's take me right back to my happy childhood but the nostalgia far outshines the reality. Ho-Ho's really aren't nearly as good as I remember. But the Astaria Ho-Ho is the best thing EVER! It's the gourmet version of my childhood favorite. I make it a point to save room so I never have to skip dessert. Make sure you do too.
If you want the VERY BEST in dining experiences: food, service, cocktails, atmosphere for a very reasonable cost you should rush to Astaria. The food is a fabulous blend of California eclectic and Mediterrean (very heart healthy), the servers are like members of your extended family, knowing you personally after just one visit, the cocktails are imaginative, straight out of Raffles bar. Every time we go to Astaria we feel pampered and spoilt and totally siated. This place is on a par with the very best of LA, London and New York and its right here in our town! YEA!!
We've had great experiences here, and maybe one or two disappointments. The menu is creative and varied, so there's something for everyone. Some of the more unusual items seem like they need a bit of refining, but it's always fun to try new things. We've had two memorable waiters here, on both ends of the spectrum. One was the ideal -- friendly, attentive, personable. The other made us feel like we were in some high-turnover Chinese restaurant, and they needed our table -- he forgot many of our requests, and seemed rushed and distracted.
If you need a sure-thing, guaranteed perfect meal (trying to impress a client or inlaw) this might not be the place. But if you're interested in some delicious and innovative menu items, give it a try.
Came here during lunch with a big group. The food was good, and service was great. The food was quite presentable, I got the pulled pork with fries. The fries were thick, it was good, might be the best I've had in a while. The restaurant is nice inside with a full bar. The only thing is I wasn't digging the whole purple and yellow motif.
Just had lunch at Astaria. The tuna nicoise salad was delicious, but the real star of the meal was desert. Astaria makes the biggest, most yummy hoho I've ever had. Highly recommended!
I've heard lots of good things about Astaria, and finally lunched here today. I enjoyed the clean and clear presentation of their menu, and their wheat bread with walnuts. I had the grilled chicken and black forrest ham panini, which was amazing! I've never had apples in a panini before, but coupled with the sauce and cheese, it was delicious. The crispy fries were great, perfectly fried and salted, although I probably should have ordered the side salad. Our table was split half and half with either gargantuan salad or sandwich, but everyone was definitely satisfied! Great friendly service...and beware the Ho-Ho. A sinful chocolate-dipped dessert the size of a giant burrito. I sat facing the bar and was very impressed by their wine selection. Will definitely need to come by here more often!
This is one of my favorite local restaurants. The atmosphere is a little more upscale - yet comfortable. It feels like a treat every time I dine here. The staff is welcoming and upbeat, but the food is what keeps me coming back. There always a good variety on the ever-changing menu but it's the salads I always gravitate towards. Fresh ingredients and interesting combinations. How come the salads I make at home never taste even half this good? :-)
When I want a quick, healthy and tasty meal, I go to Astaria for the spinach salad. They call it a Linda Salad. If I remember correctly, it has spinach leaves, dried cranberries, feta and a balsamic salad dressing. Of course they have other great items on the menu, but I just keep going for the Linda Salad.
Every time I have been to Astaria the experince has been wonderful. The changing menu keeps it new for those of us who work in the area and like to eat at this establishment. A great dining experience and they make a mean cocktail too!
This is such a nice restaurant to go to if you want to have a good time. Their food is great and tastes really good. I go there frequently because of it's food and the people that work there are great and are so nice. I love everything about this restaurant, its service and food. It is also located in a really nice part of San Mateo.
Astaria is a "girfriends" favorite. We love the purple couch. The food is good too - which is a plus.. but that couch is the best.
The menu is good at Astaria. You can get small plates of different things so you can all share. The salads are excellent - try the Sonoma salad. The onion soup is to die for! The food over all is very good. The wine list is so-so, the service is very spotty.. We've been several times when our waiter cannot speak nor understand english. It's very frustrating... Sometimes we luck out and get someone who can communicate..
This is a great place for a casual night out. There is live music a couple of nights a week and on Wednesdays they have wine specials... You won't be disappointed!
nice selection or organic and sustainably-harvested food. check it out!
