This place used to be great -- I mean GREAT -- but their quality of pizza has become a disappointment. I'm still a huge fan of Round Table, but if you want a great pie that's a little more affordable, try Original Nick's in San Mateo.
I love the pizza here but the cost is a bit much. I also am not one to complain about language barriers but every time I order a pizza from here I the delivery person never speaks English. The question then is how does one ask a question about a price difference that has happened twice, of 12 dollars in a bill. I know enough Spanish to order a beer and to find the toilet. My skills in Spanish are lacking, I know enough Spanish to order a beer and to find the toilet not to argue a 12 dollar difference in a bill. Both times I have simply paid the bill, to frustrated to breach this apparent language barrier. I am again saying that I like the food. I hope the owner takes this review as it is intended as a criticism, not as a rant.
I just wan the person on the phone and the person delivering the pizza to quote the same price....
I've been here twice with my family recently. Both times we were seated within 5 minutes but after ordering waited almost a HOUR to get our food!
I won't return. If the pizza was stellar, which is not, than perhaps. But to make hungry people wait and wait and wait for blah pizza, forget it.
Amici's will have the pizza TO MY DOOR before North Beach would have it to my table! They either need to upgrade their ovens or have more of 'em. Because in this town, where there is pizza on every corner, they don't give you a reason to go.
Head north to Amici's. You won't find a better tasting and quicker made pizza around San Mateo..
What Can I say; North Beach pizza is the Best Pizza I have ever tasted... I work in the North Beach Area of SF at a small Architectural Firm, so North Beach Pizza is Very Convenient for me during my Lunch time... I think I may have gained 10 lbs, No joke from eating it for a week straight... The staff there is so wonderful they are very customer oriented... I would recommend it to anyone looking for the best pizza!!!!
If you are looking for a pizza that is a little bit more than what you would find at a fast-food chain then this is a great place to go. North Beach Pizza is a high quality pizzaria that offers fresh premium toppings and friendly service. Once you go once you will find yourself going back again and again.
This gives our family a reason to go downtown San Mateo,
we are from Chicago and it's hard to find a good pizza (ha, ha).
If your looking for a nice family night out...this is the place.
Eating here is a no-brainer because they have something for everyone here. I like coming with big groups of people so that we can have a bit of everything. Pizza, lasagna, salads, or a monstrous submarine sandwich, WOW!! Great corner location with spacious booths for languid, indulgent eating.
And if you need to walk it off, take a hike around the block and head over to Central Park. Enjoy the end of these great summer nights!
Went in for dinner on a Thursday night with the family- got sat down fast and the svc was great but I ordered a meatball sandwich- I was not impressed. The meat lack any kinda flavor. I guess I need to stick to the pizza when it comes to this place.
Great pizza, we love the Coit Tower pizza, if you love Cheese and lots of toppings you will be in heaven.
This is SF style pizza!
This has one of the best smelling restrooms Ive ever been in. I dont know what type of air freshener they use, but it is definitely pleasant. Plus they have random classic sports pictures in the bathroom. From Jerry Rice to Shaun Kemp. Did I mention that the Pizza was great too?
These are great personal Pizzas. They are 3.99 and they fill you up. The service was good too.
We come or order from here every week. The best pizza in town. Allways fresh and good. Good job guy's
North Beach Pizza is a great restaurant. The servise is great. The pizza is good and so is the pasta.Everything is sanitary to.
I've been eating at this pizza joint for a while now and have not once been disappointed- Not with the service nor with the food! I've tried other local pizza places, but North Beach is still my favorite.
I used to shy away from eating North Beach due to the massive amount of cheese put on their pizzas. some people like it, i dont... Last week I broke down and ordered a pizza from them and asked them to put less cheese on it. Sure enough it was one of the best pizzas I ever had! if you are not a fan of too much cheese ask them for the less cheese version and I guarantee you will love it a lot more.
North Beach Pizza has the best pizza in town. It is pricey but worth every penny. Try the Coit Tower, it is the best. Go early to avoid seating issues.
This pizzaria is a San Mateo icon. The food is delicious and the staff friendly. The lasagne is like Grandma used to make. Except for the wait time on weekends, because it is so popular, I have always had a great experience there.
this is the best pizza you could ever have! its so great i can never have enough. the crust is just right and with the right amount of tooppings. if pizza's not your thing, try some of their side dishes! they are just as great!
This is THE BEST pizza place. Food is great so is the svc. ...very nice. Food is always fresh. Good job guys:)
I'm on a diet and have been avoiding the temptation of pizza but ended up meeting a friend here for lunch. I begrudgingly stuck to the salad menu but was pleasantly surprised at how great my salad was. I ordered the North Beach Chicken Salad and it arrived brimming with greens, artichoke heats, olives, roasted red peppers and grilled chicken. The seasoning on the chicken was fantastic and the portion was large enough that I took half home to eat later. I'm actually craving to go back and order it again. It made me forget about pizza which is incredible in itself. And the staff was attentive and friendly. I went after the lunch rush which made for a relaxing pleasant meal. I'm giving it 4.5 stars.
I love North Beach Pizza. The place is packed and they give you a good value for your money. They even have coupons on-line.
Eat their pizza. You will love it.
This is a great place to go if you are in downtown San Mateo. Just a block away from the movie theater. Great selection of pizza. Original.
the pizza and pasta sauce are so good! they have a variety of choices and the service is great. plus they deliver! the environment is clean and comfortable.
North Beach Pizza has some of the best pizza around, and surely the best in San Mateo. Nice thick crust (if you like it that way), attentive service, great beer and a great location. Pastas are good as well. The only negatives are the wait for a table on a busy evening and the slightly tattered and worn interior. Definitely worth trying for you next pizza.
This is one of my 12 year old son's favorite places to go. He ALWAYS gets the Pizza Sub. I have tried a few different things there and have always enjoyed my meal.
Like another user on here said, the pizza is good and top heavy, although the crust may be a bit overcooked at times. The service is always friendly and courteous, but we had to correct the check when we realized that our party had not been brought one of the items we had ordered.
So the place isn't perfect, but it is one of the best places to get a good pizza in the San Mateo area.
They have the lunch special 8" personal pizza for $3.95 and extra topping for $.50 each. For $6 you can get a pretty hearty and healthy lunch. I like the spinarch, artichoke and mushroom toppings. The thin crust is not heavy in carbs, but can be heavy on your jaws sometimes.
i can honestly say that i have never been disappointed when i go to northbeach. it always takes me longer to order then to eat because of all the good food. top three choices would be (in any order): the meatball sub (OoOo tasty), the clam pasta in alfredo sauce (so delicious), and ofcourse the sausage and mushroom pizza!! try it! it's awesome!
I had a personal pizza here yesterday and was sorely disappointed that my crust was super burnt!
I was really hungry and ate the whole thing anyway.
Great service, very personable people behind the counter, and generous toppings. Other places will give you sparse dabs of toppings; this place was great and made my pizza top-heavy with onions, bell peppers, and Italian sausage.
I'm glad I stopped by after walking past it so many times. It always looks packed full of happy people!
North Beach Pizza has the best pizza & pasta. Great location, will deliver as well. Tasty pizza sauces!
The pizza at North Beach pizza is good, not the best. The service is hit or miss. Go for lunch when the crowds are lessened and the prices can't be beat.
The best pizza is still Toto's pizza in Belmont!
North Beach Pizza is always a good choice for good, basic pizza. The shop in San Mateo is one of my favorites.
The pizzas have chunky toppings and pasta is awesome. The only thing I don't like when I come here is that you smell like food after, because the kitchen is out in the open. It's not that bad, but if you're on a date, might want to go somewhere else.
But again, great food.
I've eaten lunch at this place a few times the last few weeks and have been very pleased. They have a good deal on personal pizzas during lunchtime, the waitresses who work in the afternoon are always very pleasant and polite, and, of course, the food is exquisite.
This is one of the best pizza places in the bay area. I think their pizza is so good because they use high quality cheese and a lot of it!
Good Pizza!!! But a bit too much cheese that makes it very oily but other than that the pizza is really good, u just have to have a lot of napkins to wipe of the oil off the pizza haha.
