What do you call the opposite of a green thumb? If there is such a thing, I have it. Nurseries have a "most wanted" poster of me on their walls for killing too many plants. That's why I was happy to find out this weekend that Central Garden Center has a pot planting service. They come to your house and add new plants to the pots and make sure they look great. It's also a small but nice nursery with very helpful people.
I love Central Garden Center. Always a good selection of annuals for year round color and great people working in the nursery. They have time to answer questions and will load up your car with heavy items. The quality of the annuals is usually excellent and I've had the same luck with perennials. If you need a gift, walk next door to the Garden Hous. Lots of good ideas there.
I'm a happier person when there are flowers blooming on my balcony so I'm usually in here every few months getting another bunch of plants for my potted gardens. With spring in the air I stopped in last weekend to refresh my garden. The staff here is knowledgeable and friendly and the plants just seem to be heartier and healthier than some of the bigger generic garden centers. I only wish I had more space available to fill with blooms.
I used to live down the street form the Central Garden Center, and I liked to take a walk and see what was growing there. The folks behind the counter are very friendly and the people outside by the plants are helpful. It's not the biggest nursery on the Peninsula, but it certainly has a good selection of healthy plants, flowers and seasonal items like Xmas trees. I would say the biggest plus is they are knowledgeable about what plants thrive in the San Mateo county climate, and they give good advice regarding how to make them thrive. If you haven't already been there, definitely check them out.
