Nick Ordon, Chief Executive Officer
Nick Ordon is the President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Smalltown. He is an experienced senior software executive, serving over 10 years as CEO of a variety of high tech companies. Most recently he was CEO of privately held Grayboxx, Inc., a local search company. Prior to that he was CEO of Infotone Communications, and before that was President, CEO, and Chairman of Versant Corporation (NASDAQ: VSNT). He previously was Vice President and General Manager of the Notes and cc:Mail Messaging Business at IBM/Lotus, as well as having served in a variety of sales, marketing, and General Management roles with Hewlett Packard. Before entering industry, Nick was a pilot in the United States Air Force.
Nick received both a Bachelor and Masters of Science degree in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Colorado and a Masters of Business Administration degree in Finance and Operations from Syracuse University.
Hal Rucker, Co-Founder, Chairman & CSO
Hal co-founded Smalltown in January, 2005 to create a better way to connect local businesses, community organizations and neighbors. Leveraging his extensive experience with both technical and aesthetic design, he helped develop Smalltown's Webcard interface. Hal's vision for Smalltown revolves around a truly local community a place where it's easy for people to interact and find the things they need close to home.
Prior to Smalltown, Hal served as Vice President of Professional Services for Laszlo Systems. In this role, he managed a team of designers and engineers that specialized in building rich Internet applications for companies including EarthLink, Yahoo! and Travelocity. Previously, Hal was owner and president of Rucker Design Group for twelve years. Rucker Design Group created award-winning user interface, web and corporate design solutions for many of Silicon Valley's success stories, including Apple, Sun, HP and Adobe. In 1999, @Home Networks purchased Rucker Design Group and Hal took on the role of Vice President of Product Design.
In addition to his experiences in high tech design, Hal spent 4 years making an animated film called "Manic Denial" that premiered at Sundance and was showcased at MOMA in New York. In his spare time he builds robots that compete in the Robot Fighting League.
He received a B.S. and M.S. in Product Design from Stanford University.
Mark Jenkins, Vice President of Product Design & Co-Founder
As co-founder and Vice President of Product Design, Mark develops Smalltown's user experience and visual design. He brings a wealth of experience in design projects focusing on user interface design, packaging design, illustration, and corporate identity.
Prior to Smalltown, Mark designed rich Internet applications for Laszlo Systems and was instrumental in developing the broadband portal for Excite@Home. Previously, Mark worked at Rucker Design Group, where he created dozens of well-known designs, including the original Hotmail website and WebTV logo.
Mark received his B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art.
James Ruggiero, Chief Technology Officer
As the Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Smalltown, Jim is responsible for aligning Smalltown's technical framework with its business direction. His responsibilities include the architecture, engineering implementation, and sustainability of the overall Webcard Ecosystem.
Prior to Smalltown, Jim was Chief Technology Officer (CTO) of Novo, an Internet consulting company, where he managed websites for corporate powerhouses such as Orbitz, General Motors, Phillip Morris, Proctor & Gamble, Toyota, Levi Strauss, and IKEA. Novo was sold to the French management company Publicis, and renamed Semaphore Partners. Prior to Novo, Jim was a software engineer at PaineWebber and a senior technical architect for Totality/MCI, where he managed the design of mission-critical applications for clients such as American Airlines, K-mart, and Sony.
Jim holds a B.S.E. in Computer Science from Princeton University.
